It was a worthwhile investment. The Soviets bled Nazi Germany white so we didn't have to.

The final payment by the Soviet Union was made in 1972. (The final payment by the UK was not until 2006). Some Soviet gold payments during the War were sunk by Germany in the Atlantic but the bars were recovered in the 1980s.
