Stop using Facebook (meta?) altogether / Manchin's campaign received contributions from Facebook

Manchin got paid $300,000.00 (Manchin is 74 he will be 76 or 77 in 2024) that money isn't going to any campaign.

Manchin’s campaign received contributions from companies such as Facebook (now known as Meta), CVS Health, Lowe’s, Anthem, Cigna, Boston Scientific, Cheniere Energy and Emergent BioSolutions.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216305734

Facebook (or whatever they are calling it now) and Jeff Zuckerberg suck dead dog dick.

Facebook already quietly paid a $5 billion fine for rat fucking the 2016 election and now they are giving space to anti vaccine right wing idiots, helping to stop the BBB program which would help the American people and would help in our fight for green energy, green jobs, and protecting the earth’s atmosphere. People need to stop using Facebook (meta?) altogether.

When Zuckerburg both funds & profits from our legislators & pols then the fault goes both ways.

Am calling this out right here before we dive deeper in who's funding & who's profiting.

If we're serious about ending Big Corporate influence in our society, then we start naming who's keeping them in business, while their campaign slogans & fundraising claims the opposite.
They're all one big happy fking family aren't they.
And just to note Manchin & AOC are hardly the only pols working both sides of the Big Corporate money for influence machine.

Top graph.

It ain't just Manchin. All of tech slushes funds to politicians. Not only to the politicians, but to the people attached to them and in their orbit. Nose around most of the prominent think tanks, policy centers, and partisan publications.

You'll see them awash in tech donor money.

We've been sort of fine with that for some time.

Excoriating randos on the internet to drop facebook while politicians need hip waders to get through all the cash seems a bit much. The next time someone says something about me still using FB, my reply will be, "Don't worry about me. Worry about them. After all, Facebook is."

Here's the list of candidates who have received money from Facebook employees in the last complete cycle (2020) and how much. Manchin doesn't even make the top 25 (sorry for the sloppy format) The second number is from individuals, the third is from the organization's PAC ($0 in just about every case)

Some big surprises on that list!

....have PACs that contributed, but they're limited to $5,000 per year. Any other contributions that appear to be "from" companies are from people who work for the company, at any level. They're personal contributions and are limited to $2800 per year or $5600 for a married couple.

Most politicians have similar contributions.

been feeling pretty good about that decision overall for the past 5-ish years or so (since the whole Cambridge Analytica thing came out re Facebook's role in catapulting Russian propaganda not only in regard to the 2016 election but also to the Brexit referendum in the UK).

the choices of local constituents: "the people," whose right to choose their own representatives is itself being smashed.

Everyone here says they're against big money corrupting our elections, but how many really are?

Big money from outside is INTENDED to override the will of local voters, who typically can donate far less. Whether the outside influence comes from big business or an aggressive ideological group determined to foist someone who takes their fancy on others, it's wrong.

Good for those people who object to the use of FB and other crowdsourcing to subvert democracy and overset the will of the people.
