Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat would you envision happening if Trump was indicted??
What would be the reactions?
Would there be rioting in the streets?
Would there be violence all over America?
Would there be marches on Washington with demands to drop all charges?
Or would it have an opposite effect?
Would supporters see that they no longer have the cloak of protection by hiding behind the Commander-in-Grift?
Would any recognize that it is no longer a game but is a very serious matter?
Would they be less vocal and less reactionary if Trump was indicted?
What could you see happening if the DOJ indicted him for crimes he has committed, ie, obstruction of justice, campaign fraud, extortion, destruction of government documents, incitement of an insurrection, and seditious conspiracy?
What would be the reactions?

(26,366 posts)A DOJ indictment would be a huge distraction for the Biden administration.

(111,110 posts)Also, I think that is why the DOJ is going slowly. They are waiting to see what NY and GA are going to do, in my opinion.

(13,431 posts)If they frame it as an innocent man being railroaded, the deplorables will be angry and might form a march somewhere. Tuckers opinion will drive their behavior.
However, if Fox distances itself from the indictment like they have done from TFG as of late, nothing much will happen apart from some right win pols sending some bombastic tweets.

(17,659 posts)I don't think that an indictment would cause to much problem, a conviction would bring the redneck army to the streets. Even that might not be such a bad thing. One day we are going to have to deal with the radical right in terms that they understand. It just as well be sooner as later. At least, after it was over, we would know what kind of country we were going to have going forward.
One thing that I am sure of is this; the justice system should not consider the reaction of a radical minority when making determinations who to, and who not to prosecute. Justice is blind, but it should be deaf as well.

(111,110 posts)...they are not in the Oval Office.
By our laws and traditions, they have no special rights by being ex-President or ex-VP.
By law, they are no different than you or I.
They accrue no special privileges once they are out of office.

It seems likely that those who want some kind of civil war would approach it in such a way. Most of these attacks would be stopped or at least mitigated but not all.

(1,783 posts)tough to predict that one. The ass does have a pretty hard core following, often defined as cult-ish by some, and I would agree that a lot of his followers match that description. Most appear anemic and harmless, having nothing more than loud mouths, but there certainly are some who would worry me.

(111,110 posts)...The Governors of the states could call up their National Guard to protect the citizenry and the FBI could round up the leaders of the violence and put them in jail. They should be prepared to handle any such uprisings.
ForgedCrank
(1,783 posts)click your heels together.
For some reason, we lack the fortitude and laws required to round up, prosecute, and imprison most of these ingrates.
Hopefully, we can change some of that after we take the mid-terms with larger numbers.

(111,110 posts)if we lack the "fortitude" to round up and prosecute?
What are we being rewarded for?

(1,783 posts)All I can hope for is continued and increased outrage with the behavior of the former ass and his followers that will in turn motivate more people to get involved and vote. We need more seats to beat this disaster down.
If I had the answer to that question, I could buy us both a new bass boat and pay cash.
All other indicators including the economy are certainly doing us no favors, and the timing couldn't be worse.

(3,582 posts)I think that there would be mass arrests at the same time Trump is arrested.
I think the DOJ and various States would coordinate an arrest(s) with all the conspirators and others suspected of trying to overthrow the government.
I think that the various state agencies would also arrest scores of Militia that have been turned in by their former patriotic friends as part of plea deals.
I also think that Congress under Nancy would enforce the 14th Amendment against those members that they have proof worked to overthrow the election of Biden.
I think it would be a day that we would all remember.

unfortunately, in our country as it is comprised, nothing more than fantasy island.

(3,888 posts)and maybe an attempt to march on Washington. But the bottom line is that these people, for the most part, are cowards. Jan 6 was a deliberate set up to make sure there were just a handful of police. Had there been armed officers at key entrances to the capital, you'd have seen screaming and running in all directions.

(50,318 posts)that holds the arraignment. It'll need mega protection from the MAGAs. All I really hope, though, is that any Democrat who might be in the position of granting a pardon doesn't do it. Forget the useless "uniting the country" bullshit. Trump has been committing crimes all his life and has barely gotten a wrist slap. Enough already. Same goes for Junior, Gums and Princess.

(18,130 posts)There would probably be another attack on the US Capital and state capitals as well. I would expect the far right militias would lay siege and attack minorities.
BTW, this is why I don't expect him to be indicted. It would create too much mayhem around the country.
