I have no problem with Garland being secretive about investigations, that's a good thing. It would help ensure, calm, the public if he at least spoke once and while letting everyone know he is on the job.

(12,429 posts)What makes you think that he has to inform the American people on the progress of the investigation?
He's smart, he knows that anything he says about the investigation can be twisted around and might inadvertently give up some vital info.

(7,857 posts)a shroud of secrecy is good considering the never-ending Trump garbage they have to untangle and investigate: Trump's White House crime spree and criminal enterprise, his hands-on election interference, encouraging and participating in a coup d'etat, inciting an insurrection, absconding with highly classified documents...everyday another bombshell revelation..and you can bet the 1/6 select committee and the DOJ are in very close contact... I'm sensing the DOJ and the committee are "picking off" Trump's inner circle of co-conspirators ...Bannon, Stone, Meadows, Giuliani, Powell, Eastman, Navarro, Clark et al., (think Mafia investigation)...they're going after THE DON...

(4,913 posts)There are millions of Americans just like us here at DU who are stressed out because we do not know what Garland is up too. This is one of the most important investigations in our history. An investigation that could decide the future of our country. Garland knows this, he could at least assure us once and while he is investigating, on the job, without telling us what he is investigating.
He did that in early January I believe. He should continue to do that once and while.

(94,727 posts)Outside of political activists and bloggers, most people are NOT fixated on Trump and whether he'll be indicted. They may support an indictment if you ask them, but their attention is focused on crime, inflation, COVID, eduction....bread and butter issues.

(7,021 posts)blame the above problems on the Democratic party. With no one to point out what criminal liars they are they may well be in charge again. You may be right about most people don't know what's going on but without charges and information about the trump/Republican crimes they never will.

(12,429 posts)Because of this statement in your post.
So, I ask again, what makes you think he's not on the job?

(4,913 posts)Garland can speak, and still be secretive about what he is investigating.
MarineCombatEngineer
(12,429 posts)just what leads you to believe that AG Garland isn't on the job? I mean other than not giving briefings, which he should not do.
It's a simple question, one that makes perfect sense.

(4,913 posts)I said nothing. I never said I believed Garland was not on the job. I will not answer you again.

Garland ... NO DOUBT ... is missing the tone of the moment even if he frog marches Putin's Whore and 200 of his minions to jail tomorrow.
We need to be on a 911 footing with J6rs historically at minimum, we're not there

Getting on TV or anywhere else and talking about his work would undermine his credibility with everyone.
That's just my humble opinion.

And that's what the entire investigation looks like, not doing anything, so it's perfect.

(36,509 posts)who think Trump was directly responsible for Jan 6, has gone down. IMO, that's what months of silence from the DOJ & committee have done. Dems don't have a history of being bold & holding the repubs accountable, so as time goes on, the calls to be patient & have faith wear thin.

(1,587 posts)Garland's investigation is intrinsically intertwined with politics he has to be extremely careful in not giving the impression of being political. Unlike Barr did.
