(47,517 posts)but the really bad plastic surgery makes her look awful.

(47,140 posts)I would rather look old than look freaky and bizarre.
Ivanka is said to have extremely expensive plastic and you can see it is good work.
Edit to add: I can only imagine what it has cost Ivanka for her surgical work.
PatSeg
(47,517 posts)That freaky look is so disturbing and I've seen so many celebrities do it.
Yes Ivanka looks good. Jane Fonda looks amazing.

(47,517 posts)There are some minor procedures that seem rather harmless and if your career depends on your appearance, I can understand somewhat. It just unnerves me to see people going under the knife for unnecessary procedures. Some people don't know when to stop like they are addicted to plastic surgery.
Irish_Dem
(47,140 posts)If you are in the public eye, I guess some work makes sense.
But some people go overboard.
I watched this one story, a true one, about a woman who could not stop. She sold everything for more and more plastic surgery. They interviewed her husband who was so sad to see their house go on the market. He could not say no to his wife who insisted her appearance was the most important thing to her.
She was clearly not a well woman, and yes it had the hallmarks of addictive behavior, as well as low self esteem and obsessive compulsive traits.
PatSeg
(47,517 posts)to people who are addicted to tanning beds or anorexics. They seem to be very insecure people who will never be satisfied with their appearance as their problems goes much deeper. Many of them need therapy, not plastic surgery and the doctors who cater to them should lose their medical license.

(47,140 posts)The plastic surgeon who keeps going with some women seems unethical to me too.

(47,140 posts)Back in the 60's we fought for peace but had lots of spunk and didn't mince words. We were not afraid to call out people who deserved it.
And God knows Palin deserves it. She literally put a bullseye on Dem leaders.
Call her every name in the book.

(86,650 posts)I was thinking that this is what aging looks like when you can't lay off the whiff AND get all botoxed up. She looks like a rich whiff queen. Snort-o-holics don't age well no matter how much they invest in plastic.

SpankMe
(2,958 posts)She's not recognizable to me in that snapshot. The pic probably caught her at just the wrong moment (if there's even such thing as a "right moment" for this woman).
It looks to me like she's had cosmetic surgery. She'd probably look better if she'd just let herself age like the rest of us.
Also, I'm not fan of saying that women "aren't aging well". That opinion was often leveled at Carrie Fisher and it made me cringe. People have little control over the way they age. Everything from their genetics to their lifestyle choices earlier in life (i.e., drug use, mental issues and stress, etc.) have an impact on this.
Conservative "commentators" practically made a career publishing unflattering pictures of Madeleine Albright and Helen Thomas as octogenarians and slamming their looks. This was infuriating given where these women stand intellectually.
As progressives, we usually speak out against shaming people for physical features they may not have full control of.

(2,895 posts)Filler gone wild! I won't criticize women, and especially those in the public eye, for turning to plastic surgery or other procedures to help stave off the signs of aging that will make them the source of ridicule or render them irrelevant. But GEEZ!! It makes them look so rough... I don't know if she is actually right-wing, but one of the first I noticed had taken this approach was Ivana, the FLOTUS might-have-been. Has Palin gotten the giant breasts, too? (Since those seem part of this anti-aging package...)
