Phil Mickelson's dirty paws.

An old adage—often wrongly attributed to Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War”—holds that if you wait by the riverbank long enough, the bodies of your enemies will eventually float by. That’s as good a metaphor as any for how some golf industry executives must have felt in the wake of recent comments by Phil Mickelson that incinerated his reputation, alienated most every constituency in the game, exposed him to disciplinary action, and otherwise cast him in a light so unflatteringly amoral that even Greg Norman might hesitate to be seen in his company.

In a November interview with writer Alan Shipnuck that was only made public this week, Mickelson betrayed the traits that have frequently led him into choppy waters: a beguiling mix of arrogance and obtuseness. He confirmed what was widely known—that he’s an advocate for the Saudi-backed Super Golf League—and breezily admitted his willingness to overlook the regime’s abuses simply for a chance to force concessions from the PGA Tour that would further enrich him.

6. Having Seen Him Behind The Scenes....

...several times, he's a complete tool & a fraud.
In the clubhouse, he's rude & curt with EVERYBODY.
He hits the exit from the locker room and the "everyman" persona gets switched on.
Guy grew up on an officers' country club. Why anybody thought he wasn't another country club brat is a mystery to me.

14. Was this a Saudi plan to start a rival to the PGA tour?
Sun Feb 20, 2022, 07:09 PM

This Golfweek article doesn't give the whole story, and I didn't see any mention of Chump in there.

So I get that the plan is flopping and most of the pro golfers are happy, but I don't get why the Saudis would have any interest in this. What do they gain, or maybe they just have some excess oil-money profits to invest somewhere....? What does Chump have to do with it, other that skim the cream off the top? Maybe this is what Jared Kushner was brokering when he mysteriously disappeared in December 2020 after Chump lost the election.

Makes you want to go .... Hmmmm.

...said prior that they weren't interested, as well.
I think they're going to end up with the mid level players, if they actually launch.
They won't have the name recognition to be an immediate hit & their winners will be guys who finish 35th of the Tour.

15. Will they follow in the footsteps of the original USFL?
Sun Feb 20, 2022, 07:17 PM
Feb 2022
In August 1984, the USFL voted to move from a spring to a fall schedule in 1986 to compete directly with the NFL. This was done at the urging of New Jersey Generals majority owner Donald Trump and a handful of other owners as a way to force a merger between the leagues. As part of this strategy, the USFL filed an antitrust lawsuit against the National Football League in 1986, and a jury ruled that the NFL had violated anti-monopoly laws. However, in a victory in name only, the USFL was awarded a judgment of just $1, which under antitrust laws, was tripled to $3.[2] This court decision effectively ended the USFL's existence. The league never played its planned 1986 season, and by the time it folded, it had lost over US$163 million (over $389 million in 2021 dollars).

A reasonable person would know nothing good could ever come out of this. Whoever is on the hook for this failure probably won't be looking to be reasonable because this worthless golf league is a lead balloon.

These guys are all about money but they grew up wanting to play the majors.
I don’t know why they don’t go after Europeans.
