Does Russia have the Legitimate right to hold the USSR U.N. seat/Veto Power?

A couple nights ago I was reading that the Ukraine U.N. Ambassador was looking at the idea as to if the Russian Federation is the legitimate successor to hold the USSR seat.

I thought that was an interesting question. I was wondering if anyone heard anything more about that.

wouldn't act like the old one, so they grandfathered the seat. It was a big mistake. I am sure the question will keep a lot of lawyers up nights, but I doubt anything will come of removing them.

They were expelled in 1971 and Communist China took the seat and vote. Since then Communist China has forbidden Taiwan from coming back to the UN. So unless a new UN is created these things will remain.
