Talked to dad
Russian tanks are in the village.
They came, took whatever they wanted from local stores. They took local hostages, older folks to use them to sit on the tanks under gun points so Ukrainian resistance dont throw Molotov cocktails at those tanks. Someone knocked in their door at night, they hid in the hallway away from windows, and little Nick their grandson was whispering are we going to get killed tonight.
Electricity is out, so no heat and no water, its 32 Fahrenheit outside. There are 2 roads to Kiev - one is destroyed and another one under fire as we speak. Hit or miss. New reality for regular Ukrainian family in 21st century.
This is a simple example. Thankfully they are not buried alive under some smoking ruins left after the air strikes. Kharkov is in ruins, no one is safe. Its real war.
Try to swallow this
The world has to hear the truth about this peacemaking operation.

More from my friend:
My ancestors on this earth survived the revolution, fascist occupation, Stalinist repressions, hunger and deprivation.
But my city is one and a half thousand years old and it will survive this war too!
Kyiv was the capital of Russia when there was a swamp in the place of Moscow.
My city, my people - will survive and will only become stronger.
But the Muscovite kingdom came to an inglorious end.

(9,777 posts)"....Members of this small circle are who Putin probably does have to worry about if it looks like Russia is losing, said Hill, an intelligence analyst under former President George W. Bush and Barack Obama who later served on the National Security Council under Donald Trump. Hill was an important witness during Trumps 0first impeachment.
I dont think they care about the world of public opinion, Hill added. But if theres not any movement on the ground, if that great convoy of tanks just basically runs out of gas and is just left there, and if they have to kind of lay waste to Ukraine to basically get a success
you might then start to get a backlash from those people who are thinking this has not gone as they intended.

After Stalin died, Khrushchev had to outmaneuver about six of the others who had been close to Stalin. They included Malinkov, Beria and Molotov. I don't recall the others offhand. Khrushchev supported Stalin's purges. Khrushchev was sent to Ukraine, where he continued Stalin's purges.
Khrushchev was lucky to be sent away alive into retirement. His days were numbered after the Cuban Missile Crisis. I can't see Putin getting out of this alive. He may take some others down with him.

(813 posts)To avoid invasion a country must have a nuclear arsenal of sufficient size to initiate total annihilation. At that very point the country becomes in invader and not a defender. It is how that capability can be misused by shithead leadership that presents the problem. I don't know how that problem can be solved.
The good news is that any leader, shithead or not, who would actually make the threat of total destruction true, would have to be totally bat shit crazy.
Oh wait..

(7,561 posts)in a basement in Kyiv, so ya know that's not real comfort right now.
They feel sacrificed, and the reality is, they are.
We won't intervene because Putin knows all he has to say is nukes and we stand down, and because we know that Putin will probably use up all of his military grinding Ukrainians to dust.
So the world is sacrificing Ukraine right now, everyone should be clear on that.

Its goal is to capture and show the world what is happening in Ukraine. These will be chronicles of difficult times that our children will watch in the lessons of Ukrainian history. Ukraine, which defeated Russia in the war.
Subscribe, share this post, send it to your friends. We must show the world and each other our steadfastness and true picture of these days. That the enemy could not rewrite our history for us.

IT giant IBM. Almost the entire IT infrastructure of the state-owned Russian Railway and many banks are built on IBM hardware and software. If they were deprived of technical support and the ability to recover from failures, it would be very good. But IBM continues to support the terrorist government of the Russian Federation ((

(284 posts)Putin was deeply impacted by the dissolution of the former Soviet Union. So, it is really hard to imagine any scenario where appeasement will work with this man. If allowed, he will move on from Ukraine to Moldova, Romania, Poland, the Baltic states and the rest of the eastern European states that made up the former Soviet sphere of influence. He does not care about the Ukrainian people or even his own people. It is pure evil and ego without any concern for life.
We provided Patriot Missile defense systems to Israel to shoot down missiles launched from hostile actors in the Middle East. If we are not going to provide air cover for Ukraine, the least we can do is provide a missile shield so the country has a chance to survive this onslaught. Putin is going to surround Ukraine's cities and then pound them into the ground with missiles and bombs. Their only chance at survival is to control the air space.
Ukraine could not have joined NATO without immediately incurring the wrath of Putin. So, it seems a little disingenuous of the alliance to stick to this claim that Ukraine is not entitled to its protection. NATO will have no choice but to confront Putin when he does invade a NATO country. By that time, thousands of people will have died and been displaced by the naive notion that this sociopath will somehow stop because of NATO and the doctrine of mutually assured destruction.

(3,814 posts)when they should've been admitted to NATO and the EU, but were blocked by corrupted European countries (Germany especially). Putin would not attack a NATO country. His specialty is in compromising the border of nations he views as wanting to join NATO so that they would not qualify for membership (a country must have control of its borders).
We can't do a no-fly zone because that would bring us into direct conflict with Russia. We can't 'partially' enter conflict with Russia. We either enter fully or we don't.
It's too late to give Ukraine any advanced weapon systems such as patriot missiles - the country is going to be occupied by Russians within a week or so. The only weapons we can give them are the stingers and javelins and others that can be hidden easily, operated with little skill etc to be used in a guerilla war.

(2,261 posts)If you want to see the future of Ukraine, read about the Russian takeover of the countries of Eastern Europe after WW II.
Russia will destroy Ukraine. Cities and towns will be shelled and rocketed and bombed into rubble -- indiscriminately -- municipal buildings, homes, apartment, hospitals, stores, schools -- you name it -- reduced to rubble.
When Russian troops arrive, along with them will be special units that have lists of local officials, police officers, church leaders -- all these they can find will be rounded up and shot dead in the streets with their bodies left for everyone to see.
Reign of terror will last for months.
Putin seeks to restore the old Soviet Empire. Remember: The old Soviet Em[ire that collapsed in 1991 included Poland, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, etc. Many of these are now NATO members. This is just the beginning.

(2,261 posts). . . the Nigerian scammers are all in on Ukraine. I received this email about 15 minutes ago:
I am a Russian widow trapped in Ukraine's Donbass region amid Vladimir
Putin's senseless conflict. During the 2014 battle in the Donbass, I
lost my husband, a prominent Ukrainian businessman, who died without
having children with me. I am currently in an underground bunker in
Donetsk Oblast, a separatist war zone recognized by Russian President
Vladimir Putin. I urgently request your assistance in moving my family
trust fund worth £3,500,000.00 from the UK to your country to prevent
European Union sanctions from seizing my money because I am a Russian
citizen.
Please help me save and protect this money. You will receive 30% of
the total money as a reward for your efforts, while you must keep 70%
for me until the conflict is over. For more information, you can
contact me directly at (scam email address omitted.
Of course I'm going to jump on this to help this poor widow . . .
