(54,448 posts)Manchin has no economic reason to vote to reject, and he has to vote with the Democrats SOME time.
Besides, McTurtle has to let him vote with the Democrats every now and then. I suspect there will even be a few Republican votes to confirm this time, so Manchin would look really bad if he voted to reject and she was confirmed anyway. Jackson won't swing the ideological balance of the Court anyway. It's still 6-3 against us.

(82,849 posts)Of course, Judge Jackson's promotion to the high court doesn't change the balance of power at all, so this is a risk-free seat. It's like when a team is trailing 10-1 in the bottom of the ninth, and the runner on first steals second without a throw. Defensive indifference.
Now, should one of the court's conservatives retire, quit, get impeached, or die, Biden's choice for a replacement will be far more consequential. We'll see what Sen. Manchin does then. In the meantime, my initial take is, "Whaddya want? A cookie?"
