Some interesting things here.
Mainly I think that we are a majority of the party of peace and not fighting. That has its pros and cons of course. This poll doesn't distress me at all but it is interesting. Feel free to share your thoughts.
Eko.
Forgot to add link to the poll, apologies.

(22,360 posts)imagine what an invasion such that "staying or leaving" would be like. Very, very few of us have ever experienced anything like it, and I find it unrealistic that people could accurately determine what their path of action might be.
I think that applies to the "stay and fight" and "Leave" side. Plenty of repubs are full of bluster and would prob run at the first chance.

(130,995 posts)A LOT of Democrats have guns, and know how to use them. Women and POC have been the fastest growing gun owners in the past few years.
We just don't brag about it constantly like Republicans.

(19,257 posts)If a country was strong enough to get boots on the ground in the US, where else do you think you'd be safe in the world?
It distresses the hell out of me. If you can't even fight for your home, what kind of citizen are you?

(113,071 posts)So, since majority of Democrats are women, then it stands to reason that they would be seeking safety for their children and families as many men stayed to fight.
If you dont consider that crucial aspect you could be easily led by the headlines to believe Democratic men are less willing to fight an invasion by hostile forces as Republican men.
I am not going to give Republicans I know, in general, to be cowardly bastards any edge in the bravery column they dont deserve.
Your mileage may vary.

Once a Marine, Always a Marine.

(2,399 posts)Rural tends Repub.... less chance of actually becoming a target. Easy to talk big when you are in East Bumfuck, Nebraska.
Cities are Dem... and prime targets, with no place to hide. Look at what's happening in Ukraine.
And anybody who talks about "staying and fighting" might be the first one who runs like a bunny when the shit starts. We won't know until/unless it happens.
Polls like this are bullshit.
MarineCombatEngineer
(12,416 posts)then I think it's safe to say that I would stay and fight.

(19,480 posts)But I doubt if they would if it actually happened. Trump talked big, too -- for example, saying that he would have run toward the school shooting in heroic fashion.

(5,506 posts)No one knows how they would react in that situation, so the poll is kind of pointless, imo.

(6,280 posts)I don't believe Russia would have invaded Ukraine if they had the military might, which includes military bases, the Marines, Infantry, Air Force capability, and the naval resources of, well....Texas.
This is not to mention every other state. Hell, I live two miles down the road from an Air Force Base in Louisiana.

(32,712 posts)because I wasn't sure but friends of mine said they'd accept any guns offered and fight. Just imagine if it was China or Russia invading. Would we want to live under their rule? I don't think so. The system we have now is fucked up in a lot of ways, but it's our country. Our fucked up country. Lol.

Didn't Trump say about some school shooting that he would have gone in and confronted the shooter himself ?
Does anyone believe this piece of shit would actually ever do this ?

(58,785 posts)and collude with an imposed authoritarian state than fight. France's Vichy government chose to use Germany's help to impose their strong conservatism on a nation that rejected it. We see the same deal-with-Satan attitude here among radicalized types who'll do anything and betray all to get their way.
Fight schmight. Most of the trumpists, and some of the far left, would see invasion as a way to finally get rid of liberals/Democrats -- and Putin and subversive domestic leaders would work hard to make that happen. Those people (famously) don't know themselves.
Although I don't doubt some on the left would run if they could (can't expect people who don't know why they should vote for their liberal democracy to have the commitment to fight), I suspect these figures are affected by rejection of living under a repressive, anti-democracy regime.

(7,335 posts)Neither would be up for fighting, though might want to help with humanitarian efforts.
I'd be willing to fight, though my broken, old ass might not be of much use. I can shoot straight and have a decent handle on tactics, but I have lots repairs and not sure how I'd do in the field for very long!

(24,416 posts)I'm sure as hell staying and fighting. And frankly, unless it's an invasion by massively technologically superior forces capable of mass destruction (i.e. aliens?), I question how somebody could successfully invade and occupy such a large swath of territory such as the United States.
