I'm guessing some of this is due to low testing levels, but BA2 doesn't seem to have hit us hard.... (Original Post) marmar Apr 2022 OP

I think there has been a tiny uptick but we’re not seeing the outbreak like in China or some places in Europe.

I had read somewhere that the main vaccine used in China is not as effective as the Pfizer/Moderna/J&J vaccines here in the US. However that does not explain the European increase.

Idaho was bright red last week but is back to gold this week and FL's case numbers have jumped way up, but hospitalizations haven't increased and deaths are still decreasing now. TX is one of the states I monitor and the case numbers have tripled there! FL's numbers have ONLY (sarcasm) doubled.

They go up in some states and down in others, but on the whole we have been at ~30,000 cases per day for awhile. Deaths have fallen by half over the same time as they lag behind cases.

It accounts for 95% of all Covid positives in Ireland, but 95% of the adult population are vaccinated.

The ICU rate is only 59 people out of a population of 4.8 million, with 1400 in hospital. The majority of that number are unvaccinated. All this while BA2 is rampant at the moment, so clearly vaccinations are making the difference.

I'd be watching for an increase in Red State deaths.

SARS-CoV-2 RNA Levels in Wastewater in the United States
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#wastewater-surveillance

I don't know much about tracking, but it seems wastewater tracking might be better since, like you said, we aren't testing as much.

the number of people with covid is going up and don't forget, we were the canary in the coal mine last time around.

Dr. Fauci did say this may not like be what Delta did to the world. Fingers crossed, and I also contribute that outcome to vaccinations, boosters, mask, social distancing, and washing hands, etc.

This in any means does not negate the over 20 million and continuing deaths due to COVID, wherein approx. 1 million here in the USA is still continuing but at a much slower pace.

Apparently, Sars 2 Covid (Omicron) basically and hopefully is cancelling the severe and deadly virus to the status of flus (which still can maim and kill).

Covid is a lot worse, and it has neurological effects that can continue for months even in mild cases.

I think you've got vaccinated people with a lot of immunity, and Omicron hit so many unvaccinated people in December and January that they're still carrying some immunity to Covid right now. It kind of washed over the country just a few months ago.

But again, please get your boosters! The unvaccinated are 97 times more likely to die from Covid than the boosted are.

Thanks to the advertiser-financed media and the weak and soft population at large who bray on and on about being "done with the virus," success is now being defined as getting infected but not going to the hospital or dying, and just forget about the long covid, which we know is unaffected by one's vaccination status.
