Mixed results so far for Amazon union votes in Alabama, New York

A vote to unionize an Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, looks likeit may fall short. But a separate vote in Staten Island, New York, appears likely to succeed — and result in the company's first unionized warehouse.

Labor officials began counting votes on Thursday for both union drives.

As of Thursday afternoon, the union effort in Alabama was unofficially trailing by over 100 votes, with 875 votes in favor and 993 against. There were also 416 challenged ballots.

In New York, tally at the end of the day was 1,518 votes in favor and 1,154 against, lending a 364-vote lead to the "yeses." Counting is set to resume Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Makes sense. One state is pro-union. The other is a right-to-work (for lower wages) state.
