Genral Miley expects Ukraine conflict to be "measured in years"

The highest ranking military officer in the U.S. said Tuesday that he expects the conflict in Ukraine to last years.

"I do think this is a very protracted conflict, and I think it's measured in years. I don't know about decade, but at least years for sure," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley told the House Armed Services Committee Tuesday during testimony on the defense budget.

"This is a very extended conflict that Russia has initiated and I think that NATO, the United States, Ukraine and all of the allies and partners supporting Ukraine will be involved in this for quite some time," Milley said.

Milley and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin appeared before the committee for the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine in February and as Russia is refocusing on easten Ukraine.

A retired general on CNN said NATO could at least provide defense from the sea bc a lot of the bombs are finding their way onto nato member beaches. If Putrid can hold the world hostage with his threats while he decimates a whole country, it doesn't bode well for any of us.

The world condemns the atrocities in the strongest possible diplomatic statements - the international version of thoughts and prayers.

Most of the world are not participating in sanctions. Normal trade continues.

Both of them. Nothing there that will stop Russia from arms producing. I really don't place much faith in sanctions. Especially in Russia since it has been working since 2014 to decouple their economy from the West.
