(68,696 posts)hold both houses of congress albeit by a small amount. We have had some good legislation and we will have more if we work our tails off. I am a progressive Democrat and am excited about sending John Fetterman a progressive to the Senate from PA...that will be a great accomplishment.
being a progressive Democrat making you unhappy?
being a progressive Democrat makes it difficult to be okay with the world today and makes me somewhat a malcontent

(90,788 posts)Sure, there are things that sadden me, disgusts me, anger me and can make me feel overwhelmed but I'm happy with my life and with my family.
Not being happy with world events, and I'm not, doesn't mean I'm unhappy as a whole.
There are people I'd love to beat the living shit out of and people I think the world would be better off without.
But that doesn't change a beautiful sunrise or sunset or the gloriously delightful antics of my four cats and three dogs.
Or the pleasure I take in turning out a tasty dish.
Or from reading a book.
Or from listening to music.
Or talking with my sisters.
I get a good cry in every now and then about all the wrong in the world and then I go about the business of living - of doing something, no matter how small, to try and help. Even when it seems hopeless.

(15,662 posts)now seeing daily. I would refer you to an OP posted by H2OMan just yesterday (I think) in which he so eloquently described what helps him remain happy in these disturbing times.

For me, I find peace in the same way, and also in being busy, but mainly by believing in good and the notion that good eventually prevails over evil.
Hope you can find some peace in your daily life as well.

Where I do repetitive work in a department where I've witnessed supervisors telling coworkers to stop talking. Then those same supervisors have the gall to talk to each other in our midst about silly things, like one of them saying he just watched a funny YouTube video that the other one recommended. Then they'll discuss what they found most funny.
I was diagnosed with cancer on my eyeball recently (with an ocular cancer doctor recommending removal of the eyeball), but I'm honestly less disturbed by that than the behavior that I described above. And if the cancer kills me (which seems unlikely at this point), then I'll just die like every other living thing on this world. Death is the ultimate equalizer. **
If I put all of the injustices around the world on my shoulders, then I'd be unhappy most of the time. I can only do so much, such as trying to be fair and kind to the people that I personally encounter. (Which is apparently a struggle for many others that I've met.)
** The narcissist is triple scared of death as compared to the average person. Look at it this way. Narcissists want to be on top of the one who is already on top of the person on top. Death does not discriminate. The powerful and the wealthy along with the poor and starving die just like everybody else does. All awards, trophies, money and other possessions will go to someone else or will be thrown away or worse yet forgotten. Since death is inevitable, that brings the narcissist down to a level playing field with everybody else. And that scares him/her to death.

(89 posts)I have wonderful friends and family. I try not to get upset over things I have no control over. It's not worth letting those things harsh my buzz.
I'm sorry to hear you're not happy.

(3,334 posts)not just Ukraine but all the other wars and of course, climate change. We have just as much chance of slowing down climate change as we have ending all these wars.

(146,334 posts)If we can just elect more Democrats to Congress, progressive measures will pass for the President to sign. Until then, all I can be is hopeful. But, I'm an optimist, so...

(25,660 posts)Which came first, being unhappy or being a progressive Democrat? What's a progressive Democrat anyway -- same as a regular Democrat but with half the calories and extra pessimism? Are progressive Democrats more sensitive than regular Democrats? Is that why it sounds like a group therapy session: "Hello, I'm a progressive Democrat and I'm unhappy"? I wonder if it's something about being disappointed with "broken promises." I've waited for answers to the mystery and ... there are none. I am unhappy about that...
