The first European Union leader to meet with Putin since the invasion of Ukraine says the Russian president 'believes he is winning the war'Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said Russian President Vladimir Putin is fairly confident about his military campaign in Ukraine, even after Russian forces withdrew from part of the country after weeks of stagnation.
Nehammer on Monday became the first European Union leader to meet with Putin since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" on Saturday, Nehammer said the conversation with Putin was not "friendly" but "frank and tough."
"I think he is now in his own war logic. He thinks the war is necessary for security guarantees for the Russian Federation. He doesn't trust the international community. He blames Ukrainians for genocide in the Donbas region."
When asked by host Chuck Todd if Putin thought he was winning the war, Nehammer said he thinks "he believes he is winning the war."

OP
BS. He is lying. He knows the truth. An authoritarian cannot admit defeat. We have all seen that.

Pootie has already fired several generals. Anything so he won't have to admit he lost.

Down with his ship. Im sure he saw that as a less painful alternative than what pootie would have done to him. Probably saved his family from harm as well

(11,113 posts)6. Exactly.
Putin does not give a hoot in hell about the Russians losses. The Russian/Soviet/Russian military has no compunction about taking massive casualties.
Putin wants Ukraine but not Ukrainians. Putin's goal is not conquering Ukraine as a nation. Instead the goal is the genocide of the Ukrainians and seizure of Ukrainian territory.

(12,485 posts)7. He'd certainly be happy with the East and the Black Sea/Azov ports from Kherson to Mariupol

Putin will insist on the destruction of the Ukrainian people. The goal is genocide. Putin wants Ukraine without Ukrainians.

(26,659 posts)9. What Is Narcissistic Collapse?
Narcissistic collapse can happen when someone (or something) doesnt enable their narcissistic behavior. For example, if their spouse leaves them or their boss fires them, it can disrupt their entire status quo. But instead of reflecting on what happened or trying to work out the conflict appropriately, they can become hysterical, volatile, or rageful towards themselves or others.
