Jeff Tiedrich, for a good chuckle.

I'm so old, I remember when mainstream Republicans were basically reasonable people with differing views on economics, and not a festering fucktangle of democracy-hating book-banning ball-frying fascist shitweasels

I remember when the Republicans had moderates, even liberals. That was how we made progress from the 60s to the 80s.

"The Greatest Generation" of the 40's/50's relied on the greatest antifa General in US History, but also - as POTUS - set the tone of US internal economic development which solidified the Middle Class.

Because he saw what the common man did and sacrificed to win WW2, he repaid them with liberal, progressive policies that invested in jobs. See the 1996 Republican Platform (something Republicans, today, don't do anymore.....Because they don't believe in anything).

but those bygone days weren't that great, either..half a century of Republican intolerance and xenophobic anti-intellectual vomit found a home in Donald Trump..."post hoc, ergo propter hoc"..after this, therefore because of this...

The Republican Party You Knew Is Gone - The PoliticsGirl Podcast
-------------
Some falsely denied that Trump is a republican...

But now the cult has fallen in line and adores him.

Selected/nominated as a republican at the republican convention.
Ran as a republican.
Elected as a republican by the EC.
Acknowledged as the republican leader.

Certainly not an old style republican with morals, honor, ethics and integrity.
Those folks are gone.

But he's a republican.

Does anyone else remember when it was fairly acceptable to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative (or fiscally moderate)? There doesn't seem to be any middle ground anymore
