Let's talk about IRS Commissioner Rettig -- Trump holdover in Biden administration.
1. Why is he still IRS Commissioner?
2. Trump fired Obama's IRS Commissioner in 2017. So we know that Biden could fire Rettig.
3. He refused despite lawful request from Congress, to release Trump's taxes. The law says he "shall" release them on request of Congress.
4.From the cheap seats, it appears that the wealthy continue to enjoy loopholes and tax breaks while the IRS has just added 81,000 agents ostensibly to police the new rule requiring people who sell their grandma's teapot or an unused bicycle or other items for which they likely have no receipt showing what they paid (or didn't pay) for used items to receive a 1099 and have to pay tax on the item(s) sold plus perhaps pay for assistance in filing. And if they are really little guys who receive benefits to get by (SNAP, Medicaid) they could lose those benefits by selling grandma's teapot or their other items.
And the fat cats grow fatter.
What is the cost of hiring and training 81,000 agents compared to the likely increase in revenue they might scour from the little people on their used items?
Discuss. Why is Rettig still commissioner?
