Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are among the five recipients to be presented with the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award this year.
In a statement on Thursday, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation said Cheney and Zelensky will receive their awards along with Michigans Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D), Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers (R), and, Georgia Election Department employee Wandrea Shaye Moss.
Zelensky is being awarded by the foundation for showing resilience, strength, and courage in the face of Russias invasion into Ukraine in late February. Zelensky, a former actor and comedian, has become a wartime hero, leading his nations resistance from the capital Kyiv.
The foundation said Cheney is being recognized for showing resilience after she received numerous threats from her colleagues and others for being one of the few GOP lawmakers to denounce former President Trumps false claims that the 2020 election was stolen, as well as being ousted from her leadership position with the House Republican Conference.

(3,697 posts)I disagree with those who think she doesn't because she was just "doing her job" when 95% or more of elected Republicans refuse to just "do their jobs". There's a real political price for elected Republicans who do the right thing which is why we rarely see it. Cheney was willing to pay the price.
