First look: 49% of Texas Latino voters have positive view of Democrats, poll finds

Nearly half of Hispanic voters in Texas surveyed in Emerson College's new nationwide initiative on Latinos said they have a very or somewhat positive view of the Democratic Party. Only 25% said the same about the Republican Party.

The findings released Thursday focused on Latinos in Texas. Later studies will cover Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.

The intrigue: Several Texas voters in the English- and Spanish-speaking focus groups said they viewed the Democratic party as representing the middle and lower classes.

But several of the same people said they were better off financially under Republican leadership.

5. Yeah. Those two ideas seem mutually exclusive.

Unless you are pretty rich, you NEVER do better under Republican leadership. All Republican policies are made to benefit the rich over the poor, working class, and middle class.

It shows the staying power of the false messaging on Republicans being the party of fiscal responsibility and business.

Miami Dade and South Texas 2020 should never ever be repeated in DNC if we are to win anything

Like that's a good thing? WTF is wrong with them that ALL of them don't have a positive view of Democrats after their governor let them freeze last winter? Do they think he is a one-off or something?

The whole "better off financial" bullshit is likely because they don't understand the damage that Republicans do and then blame the Democrats for not being able to work magic.

I am so sick of the ignorance in this country.

I will bang my head with you. Why do these people consistently vote against their own self-interests?

8. Having a negative view of Republicans doesn't mean having a positive view of Democrats...

That, to me sounds like, "You might as well vote for me, because that other guy is worse".

Democrats are certainly more likely to make policy that benefits the poor, working, and middle class. They will certainly respect minority rights. The problem is that people on the ground do not see much change in their lives.

Sure they can blame Republicans and want to change, but with the media always saying how Democrats are in turmoil and we get thwarted in efforts to enact legislation, it does not put us in the greatest light.

Our reason for voting Democratic should not be, "Republicans are bad". It should be, "Here are 10 things that Democrats have done that makes your life better".

However, anyone who can't actually see what Democrats have done isn't paying attention. The media is a problem, to be sure.

And, yes, I would vote for Democrats because "Republicans are bad," although there are plenty of other reasons to do so. I have never voted for any Republican and never will.

12. True, but you and I are engaged in discussion on a political board.

Your first statement is the most accurate, "isn't paying attention". Most people in the US are not like you and I, or anyone who frequents DU. They are typically not paying any attention to anything other than their day to day lives. How far their rent is going, how much food can they buy, etc...

They are very susceptible to the lies Republicans tell, to the "conflict narrative" presented by most mainstream media where Democrats and Republicans differ solely on how they want to help Americans and each side has a valid argument.

I have never and will never vote Republican either. Their worldview is toxic, their ideology is morally bankrupt, and their policies hurt all but the wealthiest people.

To the average person, they do not understand the end game of conservatism. They do not study the views of the founders of the movement and that those views have not changed significantly since the 1780's when they supported monarchical rule.

We are talking about people who know more about what the Kardashians or their local sports team are doing than who their Mayor is, who is on the school board, who their state and national representatives and Senators are.

There needs to be explicit, loud, and repetitive communication about what Democrats are doing and plan to do to make things better.

Unfortunately, Latinos tend to be socially and culturally conservative, which they find in the GQP.
