Depending on what the OP poll says CNN did say a majority of Independents oppose it so I hope the OP is correct.

Rhode island is extremely blue and no one is wearing a mask. I am often one of maybe 2 or 3 people wearing masks whenever I go out.

The poll is not about mask mandates in general. It's about the public transportation mandate that just got struck down by Clarence Thomas Jr in Florida.

First, fly only when absolutely necessary. I gave up on the airlines a long time ago. When I was younger, flying was fun and a little sexy. Today, it's worse than a crosstown bus. Both the airlines and their passengers mostly suck.

Second, on those occasions when I have to fly, I double mask and keep to myself. I'm normally an outgoing person but these days I try to stay in my little bubble. Not much more that I could do.

I remember when flight attendants were treated like sex objects instead of actual workers.

But you're correct about the treatment of stewardesses, as they were called back then. I believe flight attendants today have better working conditions but tougher jobs.

What I meant was that it was a bit seductive for the passengers.

18. The latest Axios poll that I could find

The latest Axios Covid poll that (4/12) I could find doesn't ask that question. Poll responses seem to show that "policy preferences around mask and vaccine requirements are loosening, matching actual behavior."

https://www.axios.com/axios-ipsos-poll-most-americans-say-covid-is-no-longer-a-crisis-6604f7d2-a476-48eb-8e2d-9cb94c425159.html

The number of Americans who support their state or local government requiring masks in all public places has also dipped below 50% for the first time – now, 44% support such a requirement, down from 50% last month and 67% at the beginning of the year (during the height of the Omicron variant).

One exception to this rule is the public’s view of requirements for healthcare workers. Two-thirds (65%) support requiring all people in a healthcare setting to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This number has not changed over the past few months, possibly indicating the public holds healthcare workers to a different standard than they do the broader population.

The medical expert, Elizabeth Drew (I think was discussing it). They had a screen size graphic up about it and I focused on the numbers because they were a little shocking to me.

https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2022/04/21/americans-favor-mask-mandates-on-planes-and-trains/

An AP-NORC survey conducted during April 14-18 and released on April 20 lays out the details. Since last August, support for masking in the workplace has fallen by 18 points; in concerts, movie, and sporting events, by 13 points; in restaurants and stores, by 10 points. An Axios-Ipsos poll released on April 12 found that just half of Americans now favor requiring school students, teachers, and administrators to wear masks, down from about 7 in 10 last fall. The only exception is airplanes, trains, and other forms of public transportation, where support for mask mandates has not budged. Today, 56% of Americans continue to favor requiring masking for travelers, compared to only 24% who are opposed, and strong support for this measure is more than twice as high as strong opposition.
