Did DeSantis Just Stick Florida Taxpayers With a $2B Disney Bill?

Will Disney actually lose its special tax status and get absorbed into the surrounding counties? Well, it depends a lot on who you ask.

-snip-

While Disney would be required to pay taxes to the local jurisdictions, the counties would in turn have to absorb Reedy Creek's up to $2 billion in debt and pay for construction that would ultimately benefit Disney.

Even though the change would also absorb Reedy Creek's assets in addition to its liabilities, the high debt and expenses needed to keep Disney running would likely result in a higher tax bill for the average Orange and Osceola resident.

"The reason special districts were created was so taxpayers who don't benefit from the services of the special district aren't required to pay for it through taxes,” Politico's Stephany Matat wrote after the bill passed on Thursday.

Disney kissed Retrumplicans asses for decades and helped bankroll the fucking fascists to power. They got exactly what they paid for.

The only outcome I wanted to see is fucking corporations and Retrumplicans tearing each other apart.

But, I will say this.

Any corporation donating money to Retrumplican politicians better think twice about it

There really is no honor among thieves and corporate Dipshits.

I hope they fucking bury each other.

They fuck over a state and then when the pain is starting to be felt locally, they turn around and blame the federal government, especially if it's a Democrat in the White House.

And the sad fucks believe 'em. It's why a good chunk of the time governors typically win reelection, even when things are not going well. In 2020, every governor up for reelection won. In 2018, only three governors lost reelection out of 38 races: in Kansas, Illinois and Wisconsin. Kansas was a special situation where the embattled incumbent lost in the Republican Primary.

Incumbent governors scapegoat the federal government all the time and I bet that's exactly what DeSantis plans to do.

There are about 315,000 Republican voters combined in the 2 counties, but about 500,000 Democrats.

So DeSatan considers hurting Dems to be another part of this "win."

This governor is shameless. He’s got the legislature just the way he wants. Teachers leaving n counties pleading for teachers. Cruise lines attacked. School books.. now the big prize..the Happiest Place in Florida. Our biggest employer. Mom n pops businesses. He doesn’t shake the bush w/ out a prize. I’d be surprised if it’s all a charade

The Governor attacks teachers to drive them out of teaching. They are humans; he doesn’t care about humans. He cares about money and power.

Corporations care about money. Often, a senseless or cruel policy is all about money behind the scenes.

If Disney’s share price ends up rising (not now, it is falling for now), or a year or two from now Florida is funding infrastructure projects or bailing out the Reedy Creek debts, we will know.

It’s also possible that the government action on Reedy Creek is written in as a trigger event out in someone’s golden parachute.

Or that some third party wants to buy Disney and this will make that idea possible.

Disney stock did go down from $200 to $120 a share

My prediction is that at the next share holders meeting the CEO will resign and they will put in another CEO who will make amends.

Also the 2 billion that gets talked about here try not to forget Disney new tax, should this continue will help with the 2 billion
