https://www.politico.com/news/2022/04/22/gop-lawmakers-deeply-involved-in-trump-plans-to-overturn-election-new-evidence-suggests-00027340Republican members of Congress were heavily involved in calls and meetings with former President Donald Trump and his top aides as they devised a strategy to overturn the election in December 2020, according to new evidence filed in federal court late Friday.
Deposition excerpts filed by the Jan 6. select committee part of an effort to force former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to appear for an interview suggest that some of Trumps top allies in Congress were frequently present in meetings where a handful of strategies to prevent Joe Biden from taking office were discussed, including efforts to replace the leadership of the Justice Department with figures who would sow doubts about the legitimacy of the election.
Lawmakers who attended meetings, in person or by phone, included Reps. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and numerous members of the House Freedom Caucus, according to Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to Meadows who provided key testimony about the conversations and meetings Meadows had in December 2020.
The new evidence underscores the expansive cast of elected Republicans who had ultimately enlisted themselves in Trumps last-ditch effort to cling to power. Members traded theories about ways to push then-Vice President Mike Pence to single-handedly stop Bidens election, they parried with the White House Counsels Office on the boundaries of the law regarding presidential electors, and they met directly with Pences staff to encourage him to take direct action on Jan. 6, when Congress convened to count electoral votes.

The Select Committees filing today urges the Court to reject Mark Meadowss baseless claims and put an end to his obstruction of our investigation.

Meadows is hiding behind broad claims of executive privilege even though much of the information were seeking couldnt possibly be covered by privilege and courts have rejected similar claims because the committees interest in getting to the truth is so compelling.

The GOPers offering advice will say they were brainstorming ideas. Honestly, I bet Clintons campaign did the same brainstorming in 2016. However, they quickly rejected trying to fight as in the best interest of the country. Although, they did attempt to get then VP Biden to reject certification of Electoral Votes on Jan 1, 2017.
Gotta find some hard evidence of criminal activity, not just more evidence trump and GOPers are deplorable and unfit for office.

(999 posts)I see all of this evidence and work to build a case, but I still don't see any concrete action of severe consequence against him on the horizon. I don't want all talk and no action, or even just a nice attempt at an action.

I am watching closely what is happening with MTG and the efforts of Georgia voters to remove her from the ballot. This is a "canary in the coal mine" moment, so to speak. If this effort succeeds, it can used by other states with the congress people of their states who were directly involved in the execution of the attack against our country.

Side question: Where is Jim Jordan? He doesn't seem to be front and center these days.
