Probably I would the only one likely to make dementia jokes some decades ago. My elders were generally more polite, except when the topic was cigarettes.

People who suffer from senility, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease
are to be respected, helped, and cared for. NOT RIDICULED!
In addition President Biden is none of the above.

My dad passed away from Alzheimer’s and I fucking guarantee you there was nothing funny about that!

Perhaps Stephen Colbert is senile himself, or more likely just an ass at times.

29. Totally agree. AND some people are getting dementia at the age of 56 and mid 60's.

Others are sharper than I'll ever be when they're in their 90's, and one woman I knew before she died at the age of 105 (one of my best friends' moms), didn't start getting "confused" until she had a temperature of ...you guessed it...105 right before she died of pneumonia. Age has nothing to do with where a person is, any more than sexual orientation, skin color, or whether IQ affects a person's capacity for kindness and service.

Ageism is a horrible prejudice in this country. Extremely harmful. Diseases of the brain can happen at any age.

11. I'm glad I wasn't the only one

I've loved Colbert since he was a contributor on The Daily Show, but now it's a chore to watch him. People who keep saying the Joe Biden is senile obviously doesn't have any healthy brain cells left themselves.

These days I prefer Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers.

15. As someone who works with the elderly, including many dementia patients...

...I can tell you that nothing about Joe Biden looks or sounds like dementia to me. He is articulate, even when he struggles with a life-long speech impediment. He is strategic, grounded, quick-minded, and has excellent gross and fine motor coordination. The man is in excellent shape, ESPECIALLY given his age. Compared to TFG, Biden is brilliant...no, compared to TFG, Biden is Einstein.

We give such old-fart gifts to people we love, so I guess we're supposed to laugh at these late-night jokes, too. But I agree it is wildly off the mark in times like these.
