Wow! Bestselling novelist Don Winslow, who also makes hard-hitting political films, is leaving his lucrative novel-writing career to focus on one thing: making political ads to rally the country against Trump and the GOP.
As Don says:
"No more of this when they go low, we go high.
When they go low, I'm already going to be there waiting."

(7,218 posts)Given just the revelations in JUST the past 2 weeks there should be screaming from the heavens and EVERY D from the state capitals to the nations Capitol should be on message pointing out the GOPs many treasons.
Proof: Ill bet many here can identify Ronna Romney McDaniel as the head of the RNC who is constantly in the media.
Now name her Democratic counterpart. Ill bet most cannot.
The facts are that the oligarchs own the press, tv, radio & print, they love the money the republicans give them even though it's our tax money. And, the oligarchs don't pay taxes. Also if you don't believe me look at NPR being purchased by a huge GOP lovers. And MSNBC has gotten rid of all the progressives and left leaning line up and the pundits that are giving advice are all republicans. Only the eveninngs have a few democrats leading the line up.

(15,303 posts)You need to explain the pros and the cons. You need to get in to the details. You need to convince them that what you are saying makes sense, is rational.
The damn RW/Q/whatevers just use the old irrational fear card - over and over. They know the base dimwits will eat up projection and flashy videos. To hell with using rational arguments.
Reading Anne Nelson's "Shadow Network" (https://www.npr.org/2019/10/29/774133071/shadow-network-offers-a-lesson-on-the-american-rights-mastery-of-politics). Already understood a lot of their schemes but this lays out the cold-blooded ways that they manipulate the media and audience.
We need to go low and deep and attack them from their underbodies. Skewer the financial underpinnings. Expose the bellies of the fake xian ministers.

(13,043 posts)Toughshit. We need messaging particularly to the young & i dependents. The fascist Q-believing RW are too far gone to save, regardless of messaging. Libs need to all band together & punch back hard. This is our lives & our democracy at stake. We cant let quack-preqching idiots running all levels of gov't.

(10,434 posts)I've seen a lot of good messages from some Democrats. But I'm not among those that need to be convinced. I look for liberal messages.
Access is the problem, and availability of any message. As post #20 above says, the media is rooting for Biden and Democrats to fail.
How will this be put in front of the rest of the country 24/7 so it's not just preaching to the choir? The rightwingnuttery controls the corporations that own the media and pay advertising on media.
MF45 is a failed, disgraced, twice-impeached former president. Yet if a wet fart escapes his shit-stained sphincter, EVERY media outlet in the country praises it and analyzes it for days. Until the next shiny rightwing toy comes along. Obama is also a former president, furthermore, one who did not leave office in disgrace surrounded by criminals and a deep web of crime. Yet his excellent speech received almost NO coverage that would have been seen by the average American.
That is the real problem.

(129,096 posts)When you own the microphone you can get your message out there. But we won't buy any mics or amplifiers.
Maybe do like the last election and get some "messaging" on those big right-in-their-face billboards. Meidas Touch did an excellent job of just that and even floated this one last year (needs a re-up this year with a whole list of people) -

Big news: we found a billboard that is 20 feet by 60 feet facing the US Senate. As you know everything we do is crowdfunded. Help us secure this billboard immediately and remove Cruz & Hawley:

(10,434 posts)Lincoln Project has done a lot of good work and I'm glad for any help they give, but MeidasTouch are actual liberal Democrats.
I hope they start putting up some more of those billboards.
Wherever they can, at least, the right not only bought all the microphones, they bought the cameras, printing presses, internet access companies. And a lot of the nation's billboards. They just don't run ads they don't like
Air America was a tremendous help, despite everything that worked against it. But even something like that was just radio. I don't see how our side can ever catch up to the right on every front of the information battle.

(129,096 posts)and they were excellent, like -
That was one way that helped to propel Warnock and Ossoff into the Senate.
The vast majority of the public is NOT paying attention "to politics" so that is a way to hit those "average people" as they drive to work or to the store or wherever. Billboards are sound-bite worthy (and a number of the newer ones are LED types that change) but can have that kind of powerful impact without being wordy.
The DNC had put this up here in Philly along 1-95S a year ago (not far from the stadiums) -

(6,594 posts)Messaging is a process, like marketing.
Consider TV advertising as an analogy. You can come up with fabulous compelling messages & embody them in enthralling audio/video presentations (commercials), but if you don't deliver them to the eyes & ears & minds of your target audience, it's all for naught.
That's effective messaging.

(45,806 posts)and I believe this problem with the media has existed forever. Our Dems don't do outragious things! They just go to work & do their jobs. The media comes running with cameraman in tow when an argument breaks out o the Capital steps between to Congessmen. Theu make sure they get clips of the blowhard making ridiculous statements in a heari g or on the floor of Congress.
Do you see what I mean? It's jus t a replay of the old saying...IF IT BLEEDS IT LEADS.
I sure don't want the Dems to start saying & doing insane things just to get noticed, but they or we have to figure out some way to mke exciting & interesting news!

Since the Democratic leadership couldn't be bothered when the Mike Malloys and Thomm Hartmans of the world were sounding the alarm, almost begging them for some help. We're left scrambling with whatever scraps we can scrounge. Unfortunately, I should add.

(5,942 posts)RIP Air America
BumRushDaShow
(129,096 posts)the bundles of AM stations that they bought, they don't just run their syndicated gas bags but ALSO have "local programming" like "car maintenance" shows or "local sports talk" or "real estate discussion" or "consumer" shows or what I listen to every week - a "garden show".
Those programs were already existing on those stations and were popular in those local markets so when they bought the stations, they maintained SOME of those shows, but ditched the rest to replace with their zombies spouting mindless lies and hate.
So do the same - get a syndicated line-up of crack liberal talk broadcasters and then you can intersperse with stuff that has slowly been eroded from the airwaves and replaced with loon talk - i.e., the local "home and lifestyle" type programming. That way you build up (or try to regain) a loyal listenership who will now be exposed to OUR politics when they choose to dip in.
And again - this is all radio, not TV (which is what Air America was and had an enormously difficult time competing with both the M$M and loon RW channels).
Whatever is broadcast on the radio can also be streamed and archived as podcasts. The radio versions hit the older demographic (who is more likely to vote and not always internet savvy enough "stream" ).
