Mark Meadowsthe chief of staff to former President Donald Trump and prominent purveyor of the "Big Lie" that the 2020 presidential election was rigged through widespread voter fraudwas, until last week, simultaneously registered to vote in three states and is still registered in two, The Washington Post reported Friday.
"Mark Meadows has some explaining to do."
According to the paper, Meadows was registered in Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina until he was removed from the latter's voter rolls as state officials investigate whether he fraudulently voted in the 2020 election. He is still registered to vote in Virginia and South Carolina.
"Crystal Mason got five years prison for inadvertently voting. Pam Moses got six years prison for registering to vote," tweeted human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid, referring to two Black women critics say were unfairly targeted for unwitting errors. On Friday, a Tennessee prosecutor dropped all charges against Moses.
"Why is Mark Meadows not in prison for deliberate voter fraud?" Rashid asked.

(35,317 posts)Maybe 4, but I assume Oregon/Lane County purged its voter rolls after 23 years. (If not, Oregon is stupid.)
Los Angeles didn't purge its rolls for over 16 years. When I left Los Angeles and moved to NY state, I didn't contact the BOE to ask them to unregister me.
When I moved from New York state to Texas, I didn't contact the BOE in Monroe County and ask them to unregister me.
You know, that's not illegal. When I pointed out I didn't unregister, most people had the attitude, "Why would you?" The remaining said something along the lines of, "You can do that?" *Nobody* said, "Bad Igel!"
So I was simultaneously registered in 3 states. The reasonable thing for each state to do would be to be part of a compact checking for people like me--too much of a bother to unregister--and to purge those who haven't voted for 4 years, but make it a provisional purge, so that if I were to show up with ID saying I'm still there, well, I'm instantly reinstated.
There is such an organization. It's not perfect and sometimes has false positives. Or false negatives.
Oh. Wait. Some states do precisely that. But Los Angeles was especially derelict, in that before they purged their rolls there were more voters than inhabitants--citizen or non-citizen, old enough to vote or of voting age. (Think about what that means for voter turnout percentages. All voters show up, every single one, and that's still maybe only 90% of the number of registered voters.)
Note that I didn't vote in a previous jurisdiction. So there was no voter fraud. Nor was there intent intent to vote. Just laziness--which is very widespread among those I've known.
