(11,317 posts)But it seems like a lot of these guys (almost all are guys) have a surprising amount of online presence. That can be pretty informative.
Second question - will that kind of information/knowledge ever have any impact on stopping, or even slowing down, this sort of thing?

(35,320 posts)But before this dork was dead, he was alive and killed.
Before this dork was dead, he was alive and talked. He left evidence. Perhaps online, perhaps stuck to his living room wall, perhaps on his phone, perhaps on the Internet or in a safe deposit box or among friends or he treated those he considered foes.
There are rumors and barely supported inferences being circulated online already--things that'll lead to the conclusion that obviously "he had had a mental break and was mentally ill"--but things like "what's on his walls?" or "what do his coworkers say?" or "what pseudonyms did he post under?" or "what's on his encrypted cell-phone?" get reported/leaked can take a day or twenty. And even then, you have to look in all the right (or wrong) places, since as soon as it gets close to goring somebody's sacred ox all that's heard is pink noise.
