Is it a realistic possibility...

…that if the GOP gain ground in Congress this year, and Roe is overturned, do you see a realistic possibility the country could see a split in the years to come? I don’t see states like California or New York going along with a ban on abortion.

Is 2022 the make or break election?

Or is this post hair on fire and unrealistic and we will get through this as a whole country in the long run?

People of principle need to vote like their lives depend on it.

If not I see an authoritarian regime in our future. The right wing loves Putin and would love to see his regime replicated here.

Obama and Clinton brought us out of Repub recessions and put the country on its feet again. Biden is trying to do the same.
Reagan, Bush, Bush, and trump brought us disaster... the death of the Middle Class, wars of choice, debt, and polarization thru fear.
Looking back... 1980 was the beginning of the end of our little experiment.

Except this time it will be on side of good.

States like CA, NY, WA, etc, etc will declare any national abortion ban void in their jurisdictions.

MJ legalization IS nullification. It is currently happening.

means that MJ use/possession is no longer a state crime. MJ use/possession is still a federal crime and the feds do (occasionally) still prosecute in 'legal' states. No one in the legal community is arguing that the feds cannot still prosecute MJ use/possession.

Nullification says that federal laws do not apply in a particular state, per that states laws.

It’s about to go on steroids soon.

Eventual destination is the breakup of the United States, if we don’t look at some form of devolution.

TONS of federal crimes that are not state crimes and vice versa. Nullification ONLY refers to a state saying that federal laws do not apply in their jurisdiction. MJ legalization is nothing like that.

As a Californian it is many things.

Fed tax dollars flooding out of CA to Red States. I have two Senators that are overwhelmed by the thirty smallest States.

So not only are the Red States not respecting the voters of CA, they are using our tax dollars.

...but, if Republicans retake Congress and then the White House in 2024, we're very likely to get a federal law banning it everywhere.

Even if that doesn't happen, I think those feeling relief for being in a "blue" state shouldn't feel too comfortable. Until now, state legislators have had the safety of not seeing abortion become an issue in their races, simply because the matter had been settled nationally. Now, "right-to-life" will become an issue in their elections as well, and Republicans in swing suburban as well as rural districts will be painting the Democratic candidate as a "baby killer." Virtually every blue state has a pretty substantial red area, and a lot of "purple" ones that may be inhabited by enough single-issue voters on that subject to feel it's their moral duty to vote for the "pro-life" candidate even if they agree with the "pro-choice candidate" on every other issue. In short, every state race is going to see abortion become a crucial issue...and it only takes one low-turnout election with a determined anti-abortion bloc to give any state, including California or Massachusetts, an outright ban on abortion.

In other words, if you're pro-choice, you're going to need to buckle up and be ready for the fight of your lives, every single election.
