The SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v Wade can be easily remedied

All it takes is enough people who are disgusted with the republican agenda to show up to the polls in November in such overwhelming numbers none of the GOP efforts to suppress the vote can overcome.

If the Dems have strong majorities in both branches of Congress, they can steam roll new legislation into law.

Will this happen? I doubt it. Until enough people get off their asses, we can expect more of the sane.

1. We couldn't even get enough Democrats to show up to elect a woman president.

2. She did win. By 3 million votes.

The Senate and House Democrats get millions more votes every cycle, yet republicons nearly always control things.

Failing to show up isn't the problem. Doing nothing about republicon cheating and stealing is.

7. The Electoral College, 16% of the population controlling a majority of votes in the Senate...

and gerrymandering are the problem. American "democracy" is hopelessly broken and possibly not worth saving in its current form.

That freaking Electoral College has to go, but nothing can be done when we have Democrats voting with republicans.

And a Constitutional Amendment? FUGETABOUDIT.

9. Yeah, failing to show up IS the problem

3,000,000 no in the states where it would make a difference.

Democrats have to overachieve at the polls to counter the bullshit obstacles republicans have put in place.

16. "Democrats have to overachieve at the polls"

Why is that acceptable?

That's my point. Why is it considered normal that we have to "win" by 70% in order to pull off a squeaker?

3 million votes should have put Clinton in office, no matter where in the US those people live. Furthermore, Biden's 7+million vote win was almost overturned by a similar margin. About 100k votes the other way in certain states and we'd be in the second term of a bloated orange anus who lost even BIGGER the second time.

That is not acceptable, and Democrats should have made it a top priority. Since they didn't, they may never regain control next time they lose it.

19. Just need a plurality. Not 70%

Hillary lost Michigan by about 10k votes. She lost Wisconsin by about 20k votes. She lost PA by a little over 45k votes.

Had 80k people who voted for Obama in those 3 states but didn't vote in 2016 actually showed up to vote for Hillary, history would have changed.

24. THIS.

Few people on our side think strategically, at least from what Iíve observed. No longterm thinking and/or strategizing. They always appoint somebody to head the DNC to raise money.

But just raising money ISNíT enough! Weíve raised fucking fortunes, and WHAT have we gotten in return for that investment? Nothing but stalemates, and thatís on a good day.

32. And that's why the voting laws really mattered

It was probably the single-most important thing to get passed. If we can't vote and take the offices we win, this country's democracy is over. Thanks to two "Democratic" Senators, we can do nothing about the system that republicons are exploiting to steal elections we win.

The majority of the public votes D, and wants liberal democratic policies. But if certain Democrats we elect work with the republicons to thwart us, we'll still end up with fascist rule.

How many times do you expect the poor and POC to wait for hours and hours to vote? It's not like we were not aware of this issue after 2000.

6. No shit. Or the problem with unverifiable easily-hacked voting machines.

They've been trying things out since the 90's. How much longer before our side does something about it besides scream "OH NO!! This is THE most important election yet!!! We must GOTV!!" Frankly, I'm surprised that still works at all.

He totally destroyed her candidacy. Time and time again, throughout the election, he damaged her as badly as a candidate can be damaged.

11. This is not the time for "vote harder"

People were disgusted enough with the republican agenda (Iraq War etc) to show up and kick GWB and the Republicans to the curb hard.

And here we are today with an even larger military budget

5 decades have seen Democrats with majorities at various times. Making Americans feel like today is all their fault is a losing strategy

13. Only if

We do away with the filibuster. Weíre unlikely to get 60 Senate seats. Of course, if we have 52, we might be able to get rid of the filibuster. A solution, but not a simple one.

17. Even if we do get 60

there will be a Manchin to fuck it up.

Obama had 60 for about two months after republicons finally seated Al Franken, before Ted Kennedy died. Joe Liebermann was the main Manchin then. Obamacare was damaged by him and others who always objected to something.

overturning Roe v Wade is not an ultimate goal, itís a step towards declaring abortion itself as unconstitutional.

It's easy to assume that federal law could restore the status quo ante.

I'm skeptical that is the case.

25. Your blog started very well, until the last negative line.

Why be negative? Lets push people to vote instead...I mean, if your last line is true then why bother, I won't vote, we have lost already?

Sorry but, I really don't get the negativity, it is a defeatist attitude, it is sad that is so prevalent with Democrats, and don't tell me "well, republicans always get away with murder"...Yes they do, because they hear that negativity so they say "OK, Democrats expect us to do this and they also expect us to get away with it...good, lets do it!"

34. You assume we have a large numerical advantage to be used

I don't think that's the case.

A third of the country is politically disengaged and never votes.

Those who do vote are almost evenly split between us, indies, and Pubs. We might have a tiny numeric advantage over the Pubs, the impact of this is more than offset by our inherent geographic disadvantage of being heavily concentrated in city centers.

The way we win is by focusing on the top issues for the overall electorate. Polls show this is economic and labor issues, not abortion. Focus on the people's top priorities to get elected, and deliver on them to stay there. While we're at it, try to do what we can on issues like this, but it cannot be the focus if we want to stay in power.

One more Democratic party member turning out has half the impact of flipping one indie voter from Pub to us. Turning out our side matters, but grabbing swing voters does more. This is how we had record turnout in 2020, yet lost House seats. If it wasn't for a favorable map and the Pubs lunatic fringe costing them the GA runoffs, we'd have had problems with the Senate as well.
