VP Kamala Harris was on fire in her speech before a crowd at Emily's List conference.
She did not mince words that Republicans want to take women BACK to the 1950's as well as strip away the rights of ALL women and girls when it comes to their bodies.
As Kamala said, "We have to fight for our freedoms. For our democracy. We are NOT going back!"
The mobilization has begun. Women are PISSED! The Republicans are going to regret this come November.

(21,750 posts)Women should be pissed as shit, but unfortunately, it will probably fade from recent memory before the election.
I have to end my self-imposed posting exile and exit lurkerdom to agree with you and to throw some cold water with the reality of where we are.
A debateable ceiling of up to 55% of "white" women voters voted for Trump in November 2020. That was after these justices were appointed and after, well...everything. That was also an estimated increase over his support in 2016. I truly hope this is a tipping point and spurs a groundswell, but we have to be honest and confront the sickening reality that a disturbingly high percentage of women voted for this. Exactly this.

This needs to motivate the 110,000,000 Americans who don't vote.

(3,415 posts)posting today who are doing so in anger, rage... who wish we aren't saying half the words we are saying. We're not normally like this. I know I hate the way I've come across today... but you know what... it's righteous. It's real. It may not be pleasant. I may not like it. Those around me may not like it. They may prefer the grandma who takes care of everything and everyone, instead of this red-eyed, angry hellion on wheels. But this hellion on wheels is gonna be one of many who'll do everything she can to make sure my female progeny have better chances than I did growing up. I worked like hell to make opportunities happen for myself and my daughter and the women around me. I ain't gonna quit now. I'll walk hand in hand with any sister who wants a better world for herself and the women who come after her. I'll even join hands with the men, like my husband, who work twice as hard for those same goals.
In fact, I feel bad for men like him. He listens to me, he feels my pain... the pain of all the women who are crying and screaming since last night. And he feels like he can't even join us in our anger. He feels, because of his color and his gender, he's the picture of the problem when all along he's marched with us for our rights. I feel so lucky to have found him and have had his support in all I've wanted to do all my life, even when it's meant putting aside a dream or two of his.
We have the right and privilege to scream and rage with all we have at this moment. If there's a march of sisters near you, and you are able to join, I pray you... join. Let our numbers be known! Vote this year like it was a presidential year like no other! (like last year!) Let the Repugs know we are NOT going back... not now... not EVER. Let the Talibangelicals know this country was never founded as a Christianist country of any flavor.

(23,029 posts)statistics for White women voters for Biden. Abortion affects all women, regardless of race. 90% of Black women who voted chose Biden. 45% of White women voters chose Biden. And that doesn't include Asian and Native women who voted for Biden.
Biden increased his margin of women voters in 2020 by 2 points over what Clinton had in 2016. Biden also made gains among male voters. Liberal men have an interest in abortion rights, too.
This will not fade away. If anything, it will grow more intense.

(5 posts)...because as a "black" man and activist, I find it necessary to put a microscope on where the roadblocks are.
I'm not making these observations to piss anyone off. Actually, scratch that. Yes, I am. To your point, 90% of Black women and high percentages among other people of color (Asian, Native etc) have done and continue to do their part. We need more help.

(17,277 posts)The death of Roe is in a class by itself, because of the direct impact it's going to have on millions of lives. People don't just shrug it off when something that has been a constitutional right for almost 50 years is suddenly stripped away.
This is a wakeup call of epic proportions, especially for those who may have grown complacent about the right to choose always being available. The uproar is only just getting started, mark my words.

(23,029 posts)Are women going to stop getting pregnant the rest of this year? Will women stop wanting abortion to be available because the SC rules against it?

Be knocking on doors. Talking with friends, neighbors, co-workers.
I plan to challenge any Republican running for office about this and ask that person.."Why do you want to take away women's rights to choose and CONTROL her body and future?
We must get into the faces of Republicans and not let them off the hook. Because up next is bans on Birth Control, Same Sex Marriage, Interracial Marriage, and on down the line.

(3,655 posts)There are very important women in my life who are still alive and here today because of Roe v. Wade. That law enabled them to get the safe medical care they needed, and there is no way I want to see them or any other woman subjected to forced births or treated as second-class citizens.

(15,935 posts)Those protests everywhere throughout our country and the world had a lot of men joining and supporting them. In some ways they have a lot to lose also. Got a mistress who oops, shows up to tell you she's pregnant? Won't be anywhere for her to go, so are you ready to support the child for the next 18 years?
I don't mean to imply that some men aren't with us because they actually like women and believe they should have the ultimate say over their bodies, because there are. But there are a hell of a lot of them out there in that 70% who poll pro-choice that are just a bit worried that they could end up in a pickle someday. A lot of younger men I know don't want to have a passel of kids either.
I think more men will be with us on this one. Of course, not those wrinkly old stuck-in-the-past ones on the court. Just seeing Alito's ugly mug on the TV screen tonight, I wanted to reach through the screen and smack the ever-loving shit out of him.

(23,029 posts)I can see that some are very much with us, but others are insensitive to indifferent at best on this issue. But on checking profiles and journals for the indifferent ones, I notice that many of them are not regular DU posters, so I am not sure how much they are with us on other issues either.

(1,879 posts)Sounded like a speech from 2006 or 2012 or 2016. It was clearly written before yesterday.
Not good enough anymore. It's just not. Just like someone saying "I'm not prepared to make those judgements now....." today.
