Dolly Parton inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

https://www.tennessean.com/story/entertainment/music/2022/05/04/dolly-parton-voted-into-rock-roll-hall-of-fame-2022-class/9637229002/

"...The beloved Tennessee entertainer earned a spot among the Rock Hall's 2022 class, despite sharing in March that she didn't feel deserving of the career-spanning achievement.

She joins a 2022 Rock Hall class that includes Eminem, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Eurythmics, Pat Benatar, Carly Simon, Judas Priest and Elizabeth Cotten, among others, the organization announced Wednesday. She'll be inducted at a ceremony Nov. 5 in Los Angeles.
....

And last week, Parton backed off her previous stance, telling NPR she would "accept gracefully" if chosen.

At times, the Rock Hall hops genre boundaries — into hip-hop, country, folk R&B, blues and elsewhere — to induct artists who helped shape generations through impactful songs, which Parton didn't initially consider when attempting to pull her name from ballots.

"I will just say thanks and I will accept it because the fans vote, but when I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music," Parton told NPR. “And I have found out lately that it’s not necessarily that. But if they can’t go there to be recognized, where do they go?" ....(more)

4. She could get elected even if only "true" rock and roll fans/musicians voted.

Her original decision to decline was rooted in wholesomeness by not wanting to take a slot away from an actual rock and roll musician.

Dolly, they simply want to have the honor of you joining their group because you and your music are so important to them. They are the lucky recipients in this case.

I have nothing but respect for Ms Parton. But the Hall of Fame is an absolute joke.

13. It's meaningless; they are unable to draw a line around Rock or Roll

I love her, but Parton has never rocked in her entire life. She knows it too; that's why she tried to decline the nomination.

Every year, the quality of the actual Rock inductees declines and their definition of Rock and Rock expands to find quality musicians with a legacy of any length.

What's next, inducting Rick Dees for Disco Duck?

I suspect, too, that the story that came out that she would accept was after they broke the news to her. Sorta spoiled things for them.

9 to 5 ain't Rock and Roll. They're inducting at the margins of the genre now.

biggest hit is a Dolly song, among others. I agree (as Dolly did) that she's a bit unusual, but she's not completely out of left field as a root/influencer electee.
