How many states have never had a female governor?

I saw this tweet and it made me wonder about the bigger picture:

The answer is 19.

Arkansas
California
Colorado
Florida
Georgia
Idaho
Illinois
Indiana
Maryland
Minnesota
Missouri
Mississippi
North Dakota
Nevada
Pennsylvania
Tennessee
Virginia
Wisconsin
West Virginia

While 27% of seats in the current Congress are held by women -- the highest percentage in history -- just 18% of the nation's governors are women.

but lost. Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer were both in the Senate at the time, this worked against Rice. Too many women holding all the top offices was too much for some voters to handle. It also didn't help that there was a proposition placed on the ballot that drew conservatives to the polls.

10. Is it imperative that they have had a woman governor?

That it hasn’t happened yet in those states doesn’t mean it won’t, or that there is necessarily an issue. I don’t look at it like a checkbox item.

2. In the 2022 election I hope Idaho continues its tradition of male governors

The Trump-approved candidate for Idaho governor is Janice McGeachin, who makes Donald Trump look completely sane, rational and not to the right whatsoever. Oh. My. Cthulhu. This individual only tried to overthrow the governor three times.

The list would be longer than 19 if it were only states that elected female governors.

Proudly, MICHIGAN has had two female governors, both since the change of the millenium, and both Democratic (naturally)...

Jennifer Granholm, who is now in the Biden cabinet, and our current governor, G. Whitmer, who was previously my own state senator...

14. Your list is missing New York, which has never elected a woman governor.

The only woman governor of the state -- the current one -- rose to the position when the elected governor resigned.

not elected them. If the criteria included elected leadership, there are a few more states than New York that would be added to the list, sadly.
