(43,049 posts)worse sucessor, I would like some hint that he's seen his errors before he goes.
His idol, Stalin, died peacefully without a hint of remorse, and I'd hate to see him continue the trend.

(1,055 posts)death wasnt peaceful. He stroked out and his house staff
left him on the floor for two days.. Stalin was a mean
coward and deserved to be abandoned to fie unattended
Putin is and deserves the same a feckin coward. Die ass-

He must be on corticosteroids like Prednisone. It happened to me when I was on it in the fall of 1983 for the Eye disease I have had ever since. Nasty stuff. So many side effects to it in high doses including Weight gain, bi-polar mood swings, immune Suppression.

(13,938 posts)Hell, at 69-70 years old, crappy diet and loads of stress from a "special military operation" might be taking it's toll...
I just want him and his ilk out of Ukraine...ALL of Ukraine... Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk..

(7,440 posts)A classic sign of weakness is tremors. UK intelligence a few years ago, had data indicating that Putin had Parkinson's and was also being treated for cancer. Quite likely, "strongman dictator" Putin is pumped full of steroids, especially during public appearances, to hide the tremors. Steroids wreak havoc with the kidneys, so Putin may be anticipating regular visits to dialysis as well. Parkinson's also brings cognitive decline. If true, Putin's War may be a result of an inability to process information-- that his strategic objectives cannot be reached because of tactical incompetency. IOW, he's not able to attend to the details. And he may really believe in his dream of rebuilding a Russian empire. In dementia, dreams and aspirations may be more a force for living than anything else, practicalities be damned. Russia doesn't really vet their leaders. It's winner take all and power rules.
All of this is no comfort to the people of UKR. Putin's generals have their orders, and they are carrying them out. This war is savage and brutal as all wars are. Destroying a nation is a lot easier than building one. The senselessness of the massive destruction means that, even if Russia were to hold onto territory permanently, they have no resources or interest in rebuilding the infrastructure of what they destroyed. And they certainly have no respect for human life in UKR, Russia, or anywhere. If Russia "wins", they inherit rubble and the extreme hatred of the remaining UKR citizens.

(10,252 posts)He looks so unhealthy. How long do the oncology folks give him?
Eyeball_Kid
(7,440 posts)the next concern will be kidney failure, IMO. If he chooses dialysis, he'll have to resign. He can't be away from his desk for several hours, 2-3 days a week (plus a day of recovery after every treatment), and still be in charge. His successor won't have the personal charisma or gravitas to maintain the war, especially when its massive failures are leaked to the general Russian population. So the war will wind down, at a minimum, when Putin retreats for medical reasons. We can anticipate that it WILL happen, but we don't know when.

(19,253 posts)On TFG, they don't call him Teflon Don for nothing. We've been waiting 5 years for him to be charged with crimes, and we'll be waiting 5 more. Nothing ever sticks and nothing ever will, he's protected. And he's always looked like shit, if anything he looks better now that he's not president. And he's still giving 3 hour long speeches at his Neo Nazi anti America rallies, he's one of those slobs who just hangs on year after year.

(51,308 posts)I find it sad how many here continue predicting his downfall. Im thrilled he lost the election, but thats likely to be the only bad thing for him.

Not that anyone is checking on what DU is collectively thinking, but whats your take on the war and Russia generally if Putin dies
Of course, I put as much credence in putins impending death as I do in the dojs impdrnfing indictments of trump et al

(10,885 posts)"....rumors of his health problems. These have been getting more attention, especially from Russian reporters with better access to Putins activities and appearance over the last few years. Its no surprise that the 69-year-old Putin is often accompanied by doctors as he moves around. But one particular doctor who is often present is a thyroid cancer specialist."
