Billionaire pines for slaves

https://finance.yahoo.com/finance/news/elon-musk-tesla-boss-praises-182248534.html?

“I think there will be some very strong companies coming out of China, there is just a lot of supertalented hardworking people in China who strongly believe in manufacturing,” he added.

“They won’t just be burning the midnight oil, they will be burning the 3am oil, they won’t even leave the factory type of thing, whereas in America people are trying to avoid going to work at all.”

Elon Musk… What a monumental asshole.

Like the Foxconn Suicides, a rash of worker suicides resulting from the low pay and onerous working conditions at Foxconn-owned facilities in Mainland China. Musk must be aware of these suicides since he created an alliance with the Chinese electronics manufacturer in 2008 to speed up Tesla's production.

People would work off the cost of transporting them to Mars through indentured servitude. And at least one of his fanboys here said it was a good idea!

All for the greater profit margins of the owner, who doesn't owe those "supertalented hardworking people" one more yuan for anything. And maybe it's about time those layabouts started burning the 4 am oil.

How tech's richest plan to save themselves after the apocalypse

‘The Event was their euphemism for the environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, virus, or hack that takes everything down.’ Illustration: Matt Huynh
Silicon Valley’s elite are hatching plans to escape disaster – and when it comes, they’ll leave the rest of us behind

Douglas Rushkoff for Medium via The Guardian
Tue 24 Jul 2018

Last year, I got invited to a super-deluxe private resort to deliver a keynote speech to what I assumed would be a hundred or so investment bankers. It was by far the largest fee I had ever been offered for a talk – about half my annual professor’s salary – all to deliver some insight on the subject of “the future of technology”.

I’ve never liked talking about the future. The Q&A sessions always end up more like parlor games, where I’m asked to opine on the latest technology buzzwords as if they were ticker symbols for potential investments: blockchain, 3D printing, Crispr. The audiences are rarely interested in learning about these technologies or their potential impacts beyond the binary choice of whether or not to invest in them. But money talks, so I took the gig.

Snip…

Which region will be less affected by the coming climate crisis: New Zealand or Alaska? Is Google really building Ray Kurzweil a home for his brain, and will his consciousness live through the transition, or will it die and be reborn as a whole new one? Finally, the CEO of a brokerage house explained that he had nearly completed building his own underground bunker system and asked: “How do I maintain authority over my security force after the Event?”

The Event. That was their euphemism for the environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, unstoppable virus, or Mr Robot hack that takes everything down.

Continues…

Raised by very wealthy (white) parents during apartheid in South Africa. His father was half-owner of an emerald mine. I'm sure it was mostly white folks working the mine.

I'll bet Elon would love to "capitalize" on those Uighur "re-education" camps in Xinjiang where many would just love the chance to "burn the 3 a.m. oil." The new apartheid!
