It was trying to accomplish too much. Yes, I know, all the parts are important and were promised during the campaigns. But as someone - I don't remember who - observed: we cannot pass FDR agenda without FDR majority in Congress.
I think that, at least before inflation became a center point, Manchin was open to pass some of the parts.
I have no idea where Sinema stands, she may not know, either.
But I think that it is very important to meet with them and ask what they will accept. We are running - I hope we do - on the Infrastructure Bill. I hope that our candidates can point into road works across the country and claim responsibility.
But we need more. And if we can select part of the BBB that can pass the senate in the next few months, please, let's do it.

(33,345 posts)If they can cobble together pieces of BBB that Manchin & Sinema can live with (Sinema actually has the lower spending limit), then they should pass that ASAP.
But it may be too late, regardless; the public is fixated on Inflation and Gas Prices and will ignore a shrunken BBB like they ignored the Infrastructure Bill.

(43,377 posts)The per year new spend is only 55 billion USD, ie less than 1 per cent of what the US government spent over year each of the last 2 years.
Most of the spending is for big, long term projects. Manchin and Co shredded out almost all the things that would have impacted a huge amount of people quicker.
I do somewhat agree on this:
....although it depends what we can get past the obstructo-destructo twins. Some things WOULD helps us, especially the expanded child tax credit, but that in terms of that particular item, Manchin (of course) is completely against it.
It certainly cannot hurt to try. We need to do any and all we can and at least try and hold the Senate.

(7,447 posts)Sinema and Manchin are never going to agree to anything.
Focus on the Roe bomb that was just set off. Use that to inspire turnout.

(2,273 posts)He will lie and squeal that he would vote for it if they give him x, y, and z. Then, his corporate overlords will tell him to vote no. And he will vote no.
Not even a federal subsidy if $50 million for his coal company could outbribe his corporate overlords.
Until he is replaced with an extra vote, nothing will pass.
The same is true of Cinema Synema.
Unless we get at least 52, and preferably 53, nothing substantive will pass the Senate.
