(108,978 posts)He comes from the state that gave Trump a bigger majority than any other in 2016, and his 2nd biggest win in 2020.
I'm grateful that that R state at least produced Joe Manchin, the single vote that's keeping McConnell in check right now.

(82,849 posts)I'm not inclined to let all those red dots off the hook. Are any of them women? Do any of them know any women? Are any of them related to a woman? How do they feel about wearing the gravy boat home from Thanksgiving dinner?
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)You are literally looking at the list. Is that a serious question?
Women voted in favor 16 to 8.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Now, do you think any of the "no" voters know any women, like maybe in their very own Senate party caucus? What are the odds that any of them are related to a woman, say, by having one as their mother?
My point being how do these jerkwads explain their hateful vote to the women in their lives?
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)Quite a few people have bought into a false narrative that, somehow, women are substantially pro-choice by a wide margin.
That simply isn't true.
You could not have invented a more misogynist candidate than Donald Trump, and yet he attracted the vote of a majority of white women, leading directly to this outcome.
Pick a sample of anti-choice organizations and look at their leadership.
National Right To Life Committee: https://www.nrlc.org/6-2/national-right-to-life-president-carol-tobias/
Americans United for Life: https://aul.org/mission/leadership/
I don't know which ones are most prominent or most active, but it is pretty obvious that they include a lot of women who oppose choice.
We can ignore that, pretend they don't exist, call them names, whatever... but it doesn't change the reality that there is no shortage of anti-choice women voters, activists, etc.. The real challenge is in reaching and influencing people to change their minds. That is difficult work, so it is better to insult them or pretend they don't exist.
Hardly anyone ever discusses that the first major political accomplishment of the women's suffrage movement, after gaining the right to vote, was prohibition, since the Temperance League and its supporters were a major component of the suffrage movement. Advancing a puritanical agenda has always been a motivating factor for certain women in politics, and that is reflected in the types of prominent women we see in our politics - Boebert, Greene, Palin, etc..

(2,273 posts)Didn't look it up. But I would wager those senator asshats represent less than 40% if the people of this country.
Puerto Rico doesn't even get a vote and they represent more people than the combined populations of WY, ND, SD, MT, ID and AK combined.
What an f-ed up system, especially that they split the Dakota territory to ensure minority rule.
Makes me sick to live here.

(1,204 posts)10 most populous, 12 YAY 6 NAY difference of 2:1 with high population
10 Least populous 8 YAY 10 NAY almost equal with low population
in a more perfect US, by population represented, this vote would have been way over 60.

(50,271 posts)has paid for and/or had an abortion. I'm sick of the holier-than-thou routine, especially when every other day you read about a GOP legislator being arrested for a sex crime, often involving children. These people jet their mistresses/wives/daughters to the abortion clinic of their choice after the first missed period. All hush hush because, after all, they're "pro-life."

(8,387 posts)...who voted for Trump both times BECAUSE they wanted this outcome.
It does not matter how ANGRY any of them are. Pro-choice women are a minority in those states.
The majority of white women nationwide voted for Trump - twice.
Let's take, say, Oklahoma:
https://www.politico.com/2016-election/results/map/president/oklahoma/
D. Trump 65.3%
H. Clinton 28.9%
The only thing that most women are ANGRY about in Oklahoma is that Trump wasn't re-elected.
Reversing Roe v. Wade is the outcome that the majority of women in these states want, and consistently vote for.
