The timing of the release of the Alito opinion: Do you think it happened

as brusquely as it did because they know just how implicated Ginni Thomas is in the Jan. 6th Insurrection and it may involve Clarence Thomas, possibly risking removal?

But there is zero chance Thomas will be removed from SCOTUS. He might be impeached in the House, but there are not 67 Senators who would vote to boot him.

was to give Republicans the chance (which they took) to try to dilute the substance of the draft with a display of outrage over the fact that it was leaked. If nothing had been published until the official release of the opinion in June it would have been harder to improvise a distraction.
