There is a too-large percentage of fuzzy thinking weak-minded individuals whose primary political "philosophy" is "go with the flow". They support a particular candidate for the same reason they support one of the teams in the Super Bowl: to be a part of "everybody".
" Everybody supports__________, so I will also".
The danger these folks pose to us is that a mindless "Me, too!" vote based on the media's casting counts just as much as a thoughtful well-considered vote based on knowledge of facts and policies.
Just as the media created the Barnette "surge" in Pennsylvania, it has created and continues to bolster the myth of Trump's invincibility and the value of his "endorsement". The impact of seeing and hearing this arrogant pathological liar again and again---STILL!---is enough to motivate the aforementioned fuzzy thinkers to go to the polls on election day in their red MAGA caps and be a part of "everybody".
And that, so the billionaire-funded plan predicts, will get the election "close enough to steal".
That's how I see it.

(17,537 posts)You would think that the truth would carry more power than the lie, but it just ain't the case. People would rather believe a fantastic lie than the boring truth. That is why Republicans are still a powerhouse.

(32,639 posts)Refusing to be influenced by people whom you may (or may not) trust, sometimes causes hurt feelings. They don't get why you can't see something that's "so obvious." Well OK maybe it's obvious to THEM, but maybe they failed to consider a lot of other stuff.
Believe me, on certain issues I spend a lot of my time avoiding arguments and one-sided debates with well-meaning friends. I don't want to tell them they're wrong, but I'm not ready to decide yet. The "outrage media" doesn't help in that regard either.

In the age of big-money politics and corporate media spin, large numbers of Murcans seem to lack the critical thinking to vote for anything more than public persona (doofus who inherited half a billion and had his name painted on a jet), tribalism, and/or a single issue (god, guns, gays, racism). If elections were about policies there would have never been such a thing as "Reagan Democrats" or other such "self-enemies."
