Syria's Martyrs

The National Post’s graphics team takes a closer look at who has been killed in the Syrian regime’s crackdown on protesters.

The image below shows the 6,375 people who have been killed in Syria since March 2011 protesting against the regime of Bashar al-Assad, a figure tallied by syrianshuhada.com, a source used by the United Nations. Of that 6,081 were males and 294 were females. The total includes 431 children - 352 boys and 79 girls. About 713 were Syrian security forces who defected rather than follow orders to fire on their own people. Of the dead, 99.4% were Syrian citizens.
