Smiths point is not that greater scrutiny and urgency could change the outcome in her favorstate Rep. Andrea Salinas (D-Lake Oswego) holds a commanding lead in the racebut rather that continued delay and the unusual process Clackamas County Clerk Sherry Hall is following to hand-duplicate misprinted ballots runs the risk of undermining public confidence in Oregons vote-by-mail system at a time when supporters of former President Donald Trump are trying generally to sully the integrity of voting by mail and the entire electoral system.

It's possible that the Schrader/McLeod-Skinner race could determine control of the House of Representatives this November. McLeod-Skinner is a progressive and Schrader is a 7-term incumbent Blue Dog. So, to refine the prognostication a little more, a Blue Dog Democrat might hold the key to control of the House in the next session of Congress and a Blue Dog Democrat (Manchin) might hold the key to control of the Senate.
