Expert: A monster hurricane season is coming

It is going to be a bad hurricane season

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/opinion/outlook/article/Opinion-A-monster-hurricane-season-is-coming-17181986.php?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=socialflow

The Atlantic hurricane season starts on June 1, and the Gulf of Mexico is already warmer than average. Even more worrying is a current of warm tropical water that is looping unusually far into the Gulf for this time of year, with the power to turn tropical storms into monster hurricanes.

It’s called the Loop Current, and it’s the 800-pound gorilla of Gulf hurricane risks.

When the Loop Current reaches this far north this early in the hurricane season — especially during what’s forecast to be a busy season — it can spell disaster for folks along the Northern Gulf Coast, from Texas to Florida.....

This year, the Loop Current looks remarkably similar to the way it did in 2005, the year Hurricane Katrina crossed the Loop Current before devastating New Orleans. Of the 27 named storms that year, seven became major hurricanes. Wilma and Rita also crossed the Loop Current that year and became two of the most intense Atlantic hurricanes on record.

2. Disorganized batch of storms, not a hurricane, set to hit central Gulf coast, forecasters say

This is not a hurricane but it is worrying to have events like this before the start of hurricane season

The first potential hurricane of the season formed Sunday in the Gulf of Mexico, where tropical winds are expected to bring heavy rains — but little else — to the central Gulf Coast in the coming days, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service located the storm over the north-central Gulf of Mexico, about 150 miles south of Pensacola, Fla., as of Sunday evening. The storm system is "producing disorganized thunderstorms and gusty winds" across portions of the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama, meteorologists said.,,,,

The storm's formation marked an unofficial start of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which will officially open June 1 and could be "a monster," experts say, as warmer temperatures fuel more destructive storms.

The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season ended late last year with 21 named storms, four major hurricanes and a new addition to the list of costliest U.S. hurricanes as Ida tore through Louisiana with ferocious speed in late August.

I remember that we had FOUR category five hurricanes that year! That was the year we got hit with Wilma and Katrina.

9. The eye of Wilma passed right over my father's house

He had damage, but not extensive. Sad thing is it was in an older area of Florida with gorgeous trees and plants, most wiped out by Wilma, changing the character of the neighborhood. It was still a pretty area, just missing some of its grand old trees.

He let his dog out to attend to a bio need when the eye passed overhead. He watched as the winds stopped, the sky cleared a bit overhead. Then the winds started again but from the opposite direction. He got his dog back in the house just as his shed exploded due to changes in air pressure. He lost the tiles on his roof, some trees, and the screen over his pool.

The same is not true for either the tropical Atlantic or the Caribbean Sea
