O'Rourke confronts Abbott at press conference on Texas school shooting

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke confronted Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) at a press conference in Uvalde on Wednesday following the elementary school shooting that left 21 people, including 19 children, dead....

“You are doing nothing,” O’Rourke said, only feet away from Abbott. “You said this was not predictable, this was totally predictable, and you choose not to do anything.”

Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin could be heard yelling, “sir you are out of line. Please leave this auditorium.”

“You’re out of line,” McLaughlin shouted. “I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch who would come to a deal like this to make a political issue.”

Was wondering who was shouting at Beto.
Beto wasn’t making a political statement, he was stating FACT. The town’s Mayor was eating up all press, lights, meeting Reps, Senators etc.

Thought & prayers crap from Gop yet again.

Enough talk

Action is needed

plain and simple. Not only are they doing nothing, but they are passing gun laws to make it worse.

And that's the GOP's favorite comeback whenever they are criticized after a school shooting: "The Democrats are making this tragedy all political! How DARE they talk about taking action to prevent another school shooting at a solemn moment like this!!!"

Thank you, Beto O'Rourke! You have such courage and are one of my many Democratic heroes.

I do wish that there had been a massive number of regular citizens there at that moment to back up Beto and begin a chant of "You are doing nothing!"

Stupid, scared, nasty, selfish, immoral voters are the problem. Abbot wouldn't be in office if assholes didn't vote him in. Cruz would have been gone years ago if stupid people in Texas were decent and caring. But the stupid people seem to be the majority. And they are nasty.

I'm not sure if launching a gubernatorial campaign in Texas on the signature issue of gun control can be that effective.

Beto's totally, totally right, but he needs to transition to attacking Abbott on many other issues as well and not have this be a prominent single issue.

I wish Dems would start responding with: "How is this NOT a "political issue"?" and then read the definition of "politics" from the dictionary. And then challenge the accuse to explain how school mass murders are NOT a political issue.
To me this would be the ONLY appropriate response.
