Who?

There have always been a myriad of reasons why a woman would choose to terminate a pregnancy.

But there is now another glaringly obvious reason that might prompt an American woman to choose not to bring a child into the world - and that is because of the world that the GOP has created.

Who wants to raise a child in a country overrun with racists and bigots? Who wants to raise a child in a nation that elects the stupid and the downright insane to govern them?

Who wants to bring a child into a world where, even if they survive a school massacre by a crazed gunman, might not survive a world that climate change deniers will eventually render uninhabitable?

Who wants to give birth to a female child who comes into the world as a second-class citizen, with no rights over her own body?

Who wants to raise an American citizen who is subject to having their rights taken away by a SCOTUS comprised of religious whack-jobs and drunken sex offenders?

Who wants to bring a child into a country where a POTUS can attempt to overthrow the government - and is still free to try it again?

At the same time the GOP tries to make abortion illegal, they are demonstrating why it might be a preferable option to giving birth.

8. I have had female republican friends here in TX

confide in me that they are pro-choice. Some have said it outright. Some I see quietly liking the posts of younger women speaking out. They have been women who have had careers and they know what it means to have this taken away. We need them to vote in midterms.

We had a recent school board election here (it was combined w/city council) - local races - and we only got about 5% of eligible voters to come out. Local elections are often dismal like that - TX has been gerrymandered to death & they do not make voting easy. But 5% is still a remarkably low number - so many folks out there choosing to not even try.

I don't know how to fix that. Maybe some sort of PSA campaign in the media urging voting. IDK but open to ideas.

13. They might be apprehensive about vocalizing their dissent to their conservative spouse, but...

They should just go ahead and vote for the issues, that really matter to them.

I hope this is a lasting wake up call for them to realize, nothing good comes from letting the GOP make their reproductive decisions for them.

17. We should borrow a page from the Republican playbook and form Democratic grass-roots

organizations, something like Democrats for Reproductive Freedom. Republicans literally form groups overnight, like the Moms for Liberty that worked to ban books and real history. Many of their school board protesters were even local residents or parents with kids in the local schools. Either they started out as a local group and attracted national funding or the group was the brainchild of a national Republican political strategist.

I remember years ago a campaign to publicize sexual violence called Take Back the Night. There’s now a nonprofit organization of that name. We could have one called Take Back Our Rights. That would work for reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, and even voting rights.

It’s the nitty gritty of actually organizing and funding such an endeavor that always stymies me.

about two years ago to tackle issues of our local school board. We got folks talking & definitely got the attention of the board & administrators. But when it came down to brass tacks we could only get about 5% of local eligible voters to come out & vote for school board/city council. I am about to pass that effort on to others so maybe I will try to help out with reproductive rights in some way. I think most of the activity for the next few months is going to be folks putting their energy towards trying to get Beto elected. I don't know if we even have a chance of getting him in ... the churches are so strong here and they will be pushing Abbott.

Republicans definitely are better at the local organizing - sometimes it feels like the DNC has given up on Texas. It's infuriating because it is such a big state and it takes $$ to organize. I just don't see them making a real effort here. And republicans will do everything they can to spend $$ here because they can't lose it.

Some non-political, non-religious ideologues who want to control; aided by foreign anti-democracy interests.

I may go to my grave without any but who would want to bring a child into the world where at any moment the Republican party can try and make their guy king of the world. Fuck the Republicans. Note, Republican women who have come to their senses might be a great allies but the men are a lost cause especially those who still carry a torch for their emperor King.

in elementary school, they will get to have forced rightwing Evangelical Nationalist prayers said over them before being sent to a re-education camp for being gay, liberal, poor, or trying to vote.
