Jewish Sheriff’s Deputy Wins Right to Trial in Mel Gibson Rant Case
The Los Angeles County deputy sheriff who arrested Mel Gibson six years ago, and endured an anti-Semitic rant from the actor, has won the right to sue his superiors over the way he was treated after the highly-publicized incident.
Officer James Mee, who is Jewish, claims his supervisors, Lieutenant Crystal Miranda and Sergeant Kevin Finch, ordered him to delete anti-Semitic remarks from his official report and instead put them in a supplemental report that would be marked confidential. After complaining about this order, Mee was overlooked multiple times for other positions in the sheriffs department.
He is suing on grounds of religious discrimination and a hostile work environment.
A Superior Court judge ruled that Mee could proceed to trial on religious and hostile work environment grounds, but dismissed his claim for retaliation, citing lack of evidence.
