My brother-in-law voted in the Illinois primary

the other day. This was down state Illinois too. When he went in he said to the woman he was here to save democracy. He said the woman poll worker smiled ear to ear and said, I'm glad to hear someone say that!

...but up here poll workers are always happy to see people show up to vote.
I think it would bum them out for them to give up their time & have nobody show up.

From the Belleville News-Democrat:
Republican voters showed up. Here’s a breakdown of voter turnout in St. Clair County

Although St. Clair County turnout was low overall for the 2022 Illinois primary election Tuesday, Republican voters showed up at higher rates, energized by visible contested races. “Like the governorship, they’ve been all over TV constantly. You can’t turn it on without a Republican issue for governor on there,” St. Clair County Clerk Thomas Holbrook said Wednesday morning. Along with the competitive Republican governor’s race was the 15th Congressional District primary, in which U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-IL 13th District, conceded to U.S. Rep. Mary Miller, R-15th District.

Note: the former 13th and 15th Congressional Districts have been pretty much merged.

Also:
Turnout low in East St Louis, high elsewhere
While reports out of East St. Louis indicate very light voter turnout, the opposite is true in other parts of the county.

Basically, Democrats don't seem energized in this part of the state.

3. I live in red northern county and the poll worker said to my daughter

There has been a lot of leftists today. She just smiled. Then another poll worker with a thick southern accent made my husband confirm everything about himself because as he said, "I'm only gonna give you one chance to get this right".

My husband replied in a thick southern accent, which he doesn't have, "let's get started then".

9. My husband is never intimidated...he gave it right back at him with a smile

And a good day. The other poll workers took notice, and were trying to make my husband feel comfortable. I bet the jerk poll worker will not be back.

We as a family go out to vote and dinner after...we've done this since our children were in a stroller, so they learned to treat the ballot box as an exercise in responsibility with pride and excitement.

During the Trump/Biden election a very old white male worker looked at us as we all walked up and asked for our ballot, he looked at me and required my Driver's license, then glanced at me, then at the book with my previous signature and said he has a problem...I looked him right in the eyes and gave him the biggest smile and said, really. He looked at the poll worker next to him, showed her my license, she got red in the face, shook her head and told him to hand me my ballot. He shoved the ballot and license on the table toward me as he looked at my husband, which is very brown. I picked them up, waited until he glanced my way gave him an eyebrow raise, big smile and said have a nice day.

I didn't see him this time poll working.

7. How does the poll worker know who are leftists? In Texas we are allowed up to 3 ballots to get it ri

So, if we don't get it right you must surrender your ballot and receive a new ballot to cast your vote and if you still made a mistake then once again surrender your ballot for a new one. All in all you can surrender a ballot two times, which gives a total of 3 ballots overall. When you surrender your ballot for a new one you do have to fill out paperwork for the old ballot before receiving the new ballot.

I've exercised this right when I marked the ballot wrong.

Also the poll worker shouldn't be discussing who shows up to vote. In Texas that's considered intimidation.

8. It was a primary and you declare a Democratic ballot or a Republican

Ballot.

I actually was happy to hear we had more Democratic ballots used, because our county voted overwhelmingly for trump in 2016. It was about a 12% move to Biden in 2020 so maybe talking to these people as difficult as it can be, is slowly making progress.

10. I forgot about it being the primaries

Same in Texas, however, we hold our own primary elections. The only time I could serve as Election Judge. Fun times!

Tarrant County also turned blue in 2020. Been a long long time coming and the TCDP has done an excellent job in getting out the vote and we have a very active clubs from youth, to gay, to ladies, to Union/labor groups, to the general party, and forgive me if I left any groups out.

Glad your county is also getting out more voters.

This is how we'll continue to win!
