Maybe the story is 50 Retrumplican Senators that won't codify women's autonomy over their own bodies.
Watched a couple of "former" Retrumplican pundits and campaign advisor blaming the problem of inaction on Democrats.
"The people wanted them to do something, but they can't".
"It makes Biden look weak".
Hell, one of them even went back to blame Harry Reed for the current shitshow Supreme Court, ignoring the fact that NONE of President Obama's federal judicial appointments would have even gotten to the floor of the Senate...and ignoring the fact that Moscow Mitch would have blown up the filibuster quicker than he falls to this knees in front of Putin.
This is NOT the Democrats fault!
My God! It's like watching thousands of Focus Groups of Donnie Dipshit voters in some Dumbfuckistan Murika shithole, and pretending there are NO Democrats (another tactic of the media).
Just like they publish thousands of stories of "Dems need to reach out to rural America bullshit" and ZERO "Retrumplicans need to reach out to urban America" stories. They report thousands of time that 2 Dems Senators don't want to kill the filibuster.
When is the last time you saw a story concentrating on the 50 Retrumplican Senators that couldn't give one fuck if women die, or if teens need to carry their Uncles baby to term?
The answer is NEVER!
That's not an accident.
Maybe "journalists" would be wise to remember that some of their "peers" were featured in prominent roles at Nuremberg.

Make no mistake, they are benefiting from this distraction.
By focusing on 2 Dems or those 2 Reps, the heat is off of the others.
Not including them is akin to sheltering them.

(5,851 posts)... if Manchin and Sinema got a fucking clue.
Yes, we are blaming Manchin and Sinema, because they are holding legislation hostage and they are doing McConnell's work for him. We know damn well the GOP won't vote for anything the Dems want. We KNOW this. The blame is rightfully placed on them but if Manchin and Sinemal ACTED like Democrats we wouldn't be having this conversation so they deserve MORE of the blame.
Let's put it this way: make 50 GOP senators buck their party or make 2 Dem senators get in line with their party? Of COURSE those 50 are not going to go against their party line. Why the HELL won't 2 Dems follow THEIR party line?
Beastly Boy
(9,423 posts)Just because those 50 are a given, deflecting to Manchin and Sinema shouldn't redirect the focus from where the problem really lies. Those 50 are as culpable for holding legislation hostage. Just because we know it shouldn't give them a free ride. Manchin and Sinema are a distraction, and dealing with all 50 Republicans is far more productive than focusing our outrage on just the two.
The way to deal with all 52 of them is no different than dealing with just two. To paraphrase Biden, we need two more Democratic senators. Elections are coming. It is far more advantageous to replace two Republican senators than to replace two Democratic senators. Let's not get distracted.

(5,851 posts)Focusing on the 50 OR focusing on the 2 doesn't serve anyone. It's both.
However, it's especially egregious when Dems don't act like Dems, and they derail the Dem agenda, is it not?
OF COURSE we have to make them irrelevant by electing more Dems. OF COURSE. I can think of nothing I'd like more than to see Manchin and Sinema impotent and flailing because they no longer have the ability to hold up legislation.
Beastly Boy
(9,423 posts)As long as you don't disproportionally focus your effort on the smaller problem at the expense of a bigger one. And no, I don't think Manchin and Sinema are especially egregious. In fact, they are less so. Their presence allows Democrats to have a Democratic speaker, dictate the agenda in the Senate and keep control over committee assignments. That's a big fucking deal, if you ask me.
Frankly, I think Manchin and Sinema are sucking out too much of political oxygen with the attention they get. This only enables them.

You only need 10. Manchin and Sinema have already said they would support codifying Roe, just not killing the filibuster.
Throw in Collins and Murkowski (if you believe they aren't really full of shit), and you'd only need 8 Retrumplicans.
Unless we are ready to completely blow up the countries "rule of law" when it comes to the Supreme Court, or go to the mattresses for a Civil War (I am not sure that I am not already there), you work with the hand you're dealt.
My point is, the story should NOT be those 2 Dems, it should be the 8-10 Retrumplicans.
Failure to make those 8-10 Retrumplicans the story just enables and enhances the Koch fucksticks "both parties are the same" bullshit and provide cover for those that are truly responsible.
It's like saying a woman deserved to be raped because of what she was wearing.

(5,851 posts)Pick one out of those 50. I dare you. Pick the 10 you think you should be able to get. I dare you.
And in case you missed it, I am focusing on both the GOP AND Manchin and Sinema. I can do both. It isn't a zero sum game. You can do both too.
maxrandb
(15,353 posts)If only the MSM could "do both", but all I see is story upon story about "Dems in disarray" and NOT one single story attacking the Retrumplicans obstruction.

Portman, Toomey, the two from North Carolina that just saw a Dem win statewide.
All it would take would be a couple, and that could but pressure on others.
Wouldn't it be nice to see Retrumplicans under pressure from the MSM for once?

She's probably not long for her seat though, not crazy enough to satisfy the rugged pioneers who live in Anchorage and vicinity.

Maybe the story is 50 Republlican Senators!
Thanks for the reminder, Max. You get full credit and a rec.

(4,999 posts)This focus on the 2 is a ploy to make it seem like Dem's just aren't doing enough, and discouraging Dem turnout.
Dem's need to hammer, relentlessly, that with razor thin margins, they can only do so much. Letting the GOP have more power moves you (the voter) in the wrong direction. Give the Dem's enough seats in the Senate, and then you are going to see stuff happen, and fast.

Thinking we have a media in this country. We dont, we have a few channels that purport to broadcast the news but they are not real news like we had back when there was 3 news channels and Walter Cronkite was still anchoring one of them.
What we have today is a Jerry Springer, Entertainment Tonight mix on steroids that reports based on a profit margin of a quarterly earnings report.

(10,435 posts)Nothing new there.
But "50 republicon senators follow party line" isn't much of a story for them.
We know they will never ever do the right thing. It's a given. We do need to keep the attention on two senators who are NOT following their party and ARE undermining their president. The media just doesn't do that the right way.

I understand there are diverse opinions. But the fascists in this country are in lockstep and lockjaw. I don't need to hear another small-brained jerk explain why they are so happy women have no equality.

(2,675 posts)but it quietly goes unreported by a corporate entity that loves republican rule.
It's almost as if this company lives and dies to have a horse race over everything, though they mostly side with republicans, If they didn't, TFG would have gone away a long time ago. Ted Cruz would be in the nut house with MTG and Matt Gaetz. We would also never hear how moderate and concerned susan collins really is .
Why do they never talk about the origins of the senate or how unfair it is to the majority of the population ????
The democratic party in the house has passed tons of awesome legislation that will never see the light of day, cause Republicans don't want it to increase democratic party rule.....we are F'ed
We used to have norms in this country, but the horse race must make the overlords too much damn money!

(4 posts)Here is some tough love Democrats because I want you to win because the right wing is straight out evil. Manchin and Sinema wouldn't be a problem if we had won more seats in the last election. And why didn't we win more seats? "Defund the Police". I mean, could Democrats not create a bigger weapon we could hand the right wing to bludgeon us over the head with? This is why independent went split ticket and voted for Biden and then GOP downticket. Democrats spent decades rebuilding their credibility on law and order issues after the 70's only to blow it all up out of an over reaction tp the Geroge Floyd murder. These prog DA have been a complete and unmittigated disaster. These prog city councils in LA that green lighted the homeless encapments are a complete disgrace and disaster. Guess what? Working class folks like law and order too and don't want lawlessness and homeless people crapping on their front lawns. Yes, it was that bad in Venice Beach CA. You could argue, "well, look at these red state DA's with higher crime rates" and you would be correct. The problem is, because of "Defund the Police", you have politically undermined this argument with your own self defeating rhetoric.
