Rick Scott Tells Seniors To Get To Work As GOP Eyes Gutting Social Security

Rick Scott Tells Seniors To Get To Work As GOP Eyes Gutting Social Security

While claiming that he wanted Americans to get to work despite the lowest unemployment rate in a half a century, Rick Scott said every able-bodied person should get a job.

Scott said, “Here is what I believe. We’ve got to get Americans back to work. If you’re able-bodied, don’t have young children, incapacitated, dependant, get to work.”

Notice who Sen. Scott left off of his list. Scott didn’t mention seniors as people who should not have to get to work. The reason why Rick Scott didn’t mention seniors as people who should not be forced to get a job is that he and his party are planning to cut Social Security if they ever get total control of the federal government.

All of those 70-90-year-old Americans out there, if they are still able-bodied, they need to get off of the government dime and get jobs. Scott’s tax plan is to make seniors on Social Security play at least $1,000 in federal income taxes a year.

The Republican plan is to gut Social Security and Medicare by raising the age requirements and cutting benefits.

Republicans plan to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations by forcing senior citizens back into the workforce.

The Republican base will believe it. The apathetic and ignorant third in the middle won't really know either way. The only hope of the Democratic party is to educate enough of the nonvoting middle to counter Republicans' gerrymandering, disenfranchisement, and suppression, while keeping Democratic voters motivated.

The GOP has been hankering to put their clutches around all public services for a very long time. Right now, they can taste the opportunity.

Another reason the November elections are so damn important.

Sun Jul 17, 2022, 06:11 PM
Jul 2022

I was supposed to wait until 66 for official full retirement.
If the Repukes want us old people to keep working then they sure as hell better send a memo to some of our employers.

I was working for a boss who did everything in her power to make my work life miserable. She made sure I was unhappy, and unappreciated. I wasn’t expecting her to kiss my feet and babble on about how wonderful I was. Or that she couldn’t live without me. No. I would have been happy if she didn’t keep telling me to work harder. I was working as fast as I could, and was the most accurate Medical Coder she had. But, she wanted speed over accuracy. Of course, that meant codes would be wrong, but that wasn’t her priority. So, at 65, with Medicare saying it’s time to join up (or get a damn penalty for not enrolling on time, JFC), I said “screw you” to the boss and the job and retired.

If Rick Scott wanted me to work until 70, then he needs to tell employers to stop treating old people so badly that they have no choice but to

FUCKING QUIT.

Her boss was head of Finance and he was a miserable bastard. He treated us coders like clerical staff that only needed to know clerical duties like alphabetizing and filing. Not codes, reimbursements, MCR coding guidelines, state level requirements, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, etc. He used to call us his ‘girls’. Male Chauvinist scum.

I would have gladly stayed in the job longer cause I loved the actual job. And here in NY-21, Northern New York, coding jobs are not plentiful. If I quit, I wasn’t going to find one elsewhere within sane driving distance.

Sorry, Rick Scott does not know the ageism crap that is still going on. They wanted me out, and they made my life miserable until I finally quit.

I’m soon to be 62 and I resigned myself a LONG time ago to the fact that I most likely will never get to retire as my other peers and co-workers have, mainly due to circumstances that assholes, such as yourself, and the people whom you really work for, have created. (In fact, I intend to work up until noon the day of my funeral, which I’m sure you’re glad to hear.) That said, if I won’t be able to have access to my Social Security when I should be entitled to it, and in which I have been paying since about 1978, can I please get that money back so I can make good use of it NOW?

TIA.

62. Hard-core Republicans have opposed Social Security since inception.

They SAY the constitutional argument allowing it is completely bogus. They've now succeeded in packing SCOTUS with a majority who believe it should be repealed, at least 5, possibly 6.

I guess they can wheel you in on a gurney and leave you at the entrance where you can say "welcome to Walmart" all day long.

In a sane world they would never win an election again.

Did I say a sane world?
