Former Covington Catholic Student Nick Sandmann Loses Defamation Lawsuits Against CBS, ABC, NYT, and

I am glad that this smug asshole lost these lawsuits.

https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/former-covington-catholic-student-nick-sandmann-loses-defamation-lawsuits-against-cbs-abc-nyt-and-others/

After years of politically charged litigation, former Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann has lost a round of high-profile defamation lawsuits against five mainstream media companies at the summary judgment stage. That’s according to court dockets and an opinion and order signed by a federal judge in the Eastern District of Kentucky on Tuesday.

Sandmann’s cases against ABC News, Rolling Stone magazine, CBS News, newspaper and television station owner Gannett, and The New York Times are now officially listed as “terminated” on the court record.

Sandmann sued the five organizations in question — and a few others, including CNN and NBC — on March 2, 2020. The lawsuits alleged that various articles and broadcasts defamed Sandmann by characterizing his actions toward Nathan Phillips, a Native American activist, on Jan. 18, 2019 in Washington, D.C., as nefarious......

Bertelsman noted that CNN “filed an early motion to dismiss which the Court granted” on July 26, 2019.

“In that opinion, the Court held that none of the statements were actionable for various reasons: some were not ‘about’ Sandmann; some were statements of opinion; and/or some were not subject to a defamatory meaning,” Bertelsman recalled.

It is sad that some of the defendants settled with this smug asshole.

but he should be responsible for costs, like service and filing fees, depositions, copying costs. The attorney can front those costs but the client is supposed to be ultimately responsible for them. Those costs can be quite sizable.

Depends on the judgment really. The judge can order him to pay the defense attorneys fees and expenses.

Hell, in some cases he could be ordered to pay compensatory damages to the defendants to compensate them for things like time spent and depositions etc.

I don't think that would be the case here but it's definitely possible.

... I think the settlements were more "nuisance" settlements than anything else. And if I remember correctly, the little fuckwad and his attorneys wrote non-disclosure clauses into their settlement agreements, MEANING the attorneys for the other sides were not able to disclose the terms of the settlements. This is a common tactic when your "hand" is not as fantastic as you'd like to claim.

He was on a pro forced-birth protest in DC at the time of the confrontation with the Native Americans.

He and Bezos settled out of court and there is no disclosure for how much. If Bezos had waited, and not jumped the gun, he could have saved himself some money. Bad decision Bezos.

Smug little idiots like this are so common in the South. They try so hard to take away other people's rights, belittle others and pat themselves on the back when others suffer for it. They eventually end up drinking away all their money and grifting for the filthy rich. They are such suck ups.

Everybody knows ahole's like this in HS or college, they eventually get their ass kicked cause their ass can't cover the checks their mouths write.

Covington catholic has a role in this. You take a bunch of males, who think they rule the world to an anti choice rally every year, you are setting up, none thinking drone future republicans.....Choice is something everybody should have to THINK about, don't force the religion down them with out giving them perspective. Not every women they date, sleep with and marry will be catholic and also has a CHOICE (in the some state FU SC)
