And you could add the GOP sellouts too. I had this argument with a friend several months ago. ( Hes a conspiracy nut, by the way)
His argument was everyone has a price. Even for people who claim they dont, the right price hasnt been offered.
I disagree. I think there are many people with strong principles who would not go against those principles. Even for a shot at 200 million dollars?
Another good point made earlier, there are fewer athletes in golf, but could the Saudis woo the top athletes in the NFL, NBA,WNBA, MLB to play in their own leagues, thus leaving a void in those sports?

3) turned down promotions for removing ear rings in my 30s.
Retired now, enough in the bank to pay the bills
I can not imagine what it would take to even get me to discuss returning to work. I mean, I would rather die than imagine punching a clock again. Seriously. I spend as much time as possible in our National Forests/Parks etc. I spend as many nights as possible in a van (very often down by the river).
My price? Fuck you. Im gonna do what I want.

(65,042 posts)But, although I don't need the paltry money, I substitute teacher, especially in the winter when I can't play golf. (I sub 50-60 times per year and make about 4% of what we'd have anyway. So, no significant $.)
That said, it doesn't feel like punching a clock because I can always say no, and they'll ask me another time.
And, i enjoy helping the kids.
I seldom do more than 2 or 3 days a week.
Actually, doing it fits in with your "Fuck you. Im gonna do what I want." Because I do it when I want to.
(BTW: Half of the money goes to the local food pantry, so after taxes I get gas money.) Doing what I want, when I want. Sort of the retirement dream, isn't it?

(20,491 posts)My biggest regret is staying in the rat race as long as I did.
My second biggest regret is not being as generous as I might have been. Seems like you got that covered.

(13,870 posts)They couldn't try a tactic like the Bone Saw golf tour since all of the other teams play in dedicated stadiums. They would have no where to play, whereas most golf courses are thrilled to have the revenue from hosting a tournament.

(50,949 posts)true because my needs are met. If I didn't have a roof over my head and food on the table, or if one of my pod members was in some kind of danger or need that required more money than I have, I would probably do things I don't see myself doing now.
The thing about $200 million is that I really don't have much need for $200 million. I'd probably give most of it away if it fell in my lap.

Its all about the $$$$ not about the politics of the Country.

(5,124 posts)Those foreign teams arent throwing around the kind of money the Saudis are. Phil Mickelson signed a contract for 200 million dollars. Its been reported that Tiger Woods was offered more and turned it down.
BG earned 1 million dollars overseas. For less popular players they earn less. What the LIV is doing is obscene in terms of payout.
