Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHow do Trump supporters justify the attack upon our Capitol?
Obviously, if they did not support the attack upon our Capitol, they would not be supporting Trump.
Conversely, if they still support Trump, they must have supported the attack upon our Capitol?
How do they explain that the Secret Service was trying to protect Mike Pence on January 6th and move him to safety but they made no attempt to move Trump anywhere away from his TV?
How do they defend such traitorous acts and still call themselves patriotic Americans?
Or do they not call themselves "patriotic" Americans anymore?

(1,898 posts)Theres only mental gymnastics, but lest we be sure that they still call themselves patriots despite having no moral high ground to do so.
Their words carry no merit and theres nothing patriotic about them, just like January 6 exposed Blue Lives Matter as a dog whistle.

(111,110 posts)So they were butthurt and grabbed their huge Trump flags and attacked our Capitol. That is what it looks like.

(16,791 posts)They ARE NOT patriotic Americans. They are Anti-Democracy, plain and simple.
The same goes for those who fly the Nazi flag. They are telling us who they are and what they stand for as they piss on the US Constitution.

(13,883 posts)They believe liberals and most Democrats have no right to rule or in some cases even exist. I first noticed this when I happened on to a radio station playing Rush Limbaugh in the early nineties. His "political" show was not about debating ideas, it was all about vilifying Democrats and the left. For Limbaugh and his followers liberals were illegitimate and needed to be removed.

My personal wtf favorite is "Nancy Pelosi refused to let them read the names of the 14 killed in the Afghanistan exit." Now that's digging pretty deep.
Edit: I suppose that once they were able to believe that climate change doesn't exist and also that Trump won the election it isn't much of a stretch to think 1/6 was just a bunch of rambunctious tourists. They can move on from just about anything.

(3,728 posts)It was the unconstitutional swearing in of President Biden on Jan 20 that justified the Jan 6th insurrection.
Or so it will be said in bizzaro world.

(4,402 posts)then I suppose anything you do in response is justified in their minds.
The fault lies with the people who should know better - the Republican politicians using increasingly extreme rhetoric to demonize mainstream moderate Democrats and the lack of accountability for the right-wing propaganda industry.

(3,795 posts)Memes all over the place. Incorrect memes, saying there have been no arrests associated with BLM, etc.
They ignore the fact that the majority of BLM protests were peaceful, and instead make it sound like a dystopian hellscape. And that the rioting was the fault of Democrats.
In fact, rioting, looting, burning are their favorite words and invariably brought up no matter what the subject is. They mention Chicago. Why isn't BLM going to Chicago and taking of all the murders there. This is nothing new. Started long before Jan. 6. Sort of "why talk about the Capitol riot when the BLM protests were so much worse."
Another excuse: "only one person died and she was an innocent woman." The Capitol rioters were "unarmed." Hard to convince people that wasn't true.
