Republicans in primary races over Republicans who voted to impeach Trump.
CNN just reported that Dems spent $44million on promoting Trumps endorsed primary candidates. The report is really making Dems sound sinister and petty
And unprincipled.
I dont like Dems spending campaign money like this. I can understand a few moves here and there, but, $44m dollar campaign is a major commitment to a dirty tactic.
Just my opinion, but, the way the news networks are reporting the meddling reinforces some of my discomfort with the entire strategy, though these are not ordinary times.
Your mileage may vary.

I dont mind fighting dirty, but, I know to expect the spin against Dems will always be harder than the Repubs get from media.

(74,775 posts)of them hurts society. Not that I'm okay with any republican at this point.
I do appreciate that the art of "rat fucking" became known to the public thanks to Nixon, although it was done at a different level before then. And it did work for Dick in '72, though it came back to bite him. So there is a lesson there, beyond how it works.
I could not, in all good faith, pretend that I have never been involved in anything like that post-Nixon. On a local level, for example, there can be both benefit and pleasure found in having a volunteer pretend to favor a republlican candidate in a LTTE that pretends to support the opponent's most extreme positions .... or even more extreme positions they haven't taken. It can result in their having to explain, which rarely if ever works.
In the case at hand, I do recognize that there is the potential for good to come out of it. But I also recognize there is a very real bad potential. And I'm not really comfortable with a few people willing to roll the dice with the money a lot of people donated for something different.

(751 posts)I can't speak about all the money spent, but the money spent in MI-03 was more than likely a wise investment. Prior to redistricting this past year the old district that is represented by Peter Meijer (R) (pronounced my-er) was +5 to +8 republican. After redistricting the new district is now +5 democratic. It has gone from nearly unwinnable to very winnable district.

(8,211 posts)Here is one the ads that supposedly """promoted""" one of these Trump-backed candidates:
What would you prefer Democrats do? ACTUALLY support these fascist fuckers?
Calling these assholes out for what they are is NOT """supporting""" them. Stop propagating bullshit narratives.

W_HAMILTON
(8,211 posts)...ESPECIALLY when the Democrats are doing nothing wrong and it's just the person running with a bullshit narrative that has been spread around so much -- once again, thanks so-called allies! -- that everyone just takes it as truth now because everyone is repeating it.
Imagine criticizing Democrats for running an ad like the one I posted.
EDIT: And we've heard this narrative repeated on these boards many times already; you are not the first to """break the news""" here, you are just the latest to repeat the false narrative. And, no, I won't simply scroll past unfair and biased attacks against Democrats. I learned my lesson from doing that. I absolutely will push back against false narratives and outright lies when I see them now.

(113,729 posts)And I described it accurately as media spinning the strategy against Dems.

(8,211 posts)...when you said "I dont like Dems spending campaign money like this. I can understand a few moves here and there, but, $44m dollar campaign is a major commitment to a dirty tactic."
Was that ad that I posted a """dirty tactic""" or was it accurately and rightfully calling out a Trump-supporting extremist?

(17,079 posts)The party reached a flash point with its recent decision to invest more than $400,000 to help the primary challenger running on Tuesday against Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.). John Gibbs has promoted the bizarre Spirit Cooking conspiracy theory, which claims prominent Democrats participated in satanic rituals involving bodily fluids, and baselessly denied the 2020 election results. Meijer happens to be one of just 10 House Republicans who risked their careers by voting to impeach President Donald Trump.

(9,839 posts)All we can do now is make sure the psychopaths that were nominated don't get elected. Truth is, they have always been right outside the mainstream of the modern GOP. Now they ARE the mainstream GOP.
peggysue2
(11,252 posts)Because if these fools get elected, the damage to our system will be incalculable.
However, the idea that Republicans are howling over the move, insisting that the Dems can no longer say they act on principle is beyond ludicrous.
The GOP enabled a frigging insurrection, then tried to cover it up. What's worse than that???
We're in a life or death battle for the country. Remember all the complaints of Dems bringing a knife to a gunfight? You can't have it both ways.
Do I wish this wasn't a tactic? Yes.
But if it works, I doubt there will be little howling at the end of the day.
Btw, Will Bunch, a columnist at the Philadelphia Inquirer, suggested that Josh Shapiro wishing for Doug Mastriano as an opponent, was an equally risky sentiment. Bunch's take was: Be careful what you wish for. According to the polling so far, however, Josh Shapiro was on the money bc Mastriano has turned off a large swath of the electorate by shooting his mouth off and letting the crazy hang out. Listened to an Arizona Republican last night who predicted a 'bloodbath' in his own state because of the primary results where crazy ruled.
We shall see who was right. But the gall of Republicans shouting foul is beyond belief!
blm
(113,729 posts)As expected.
As they usually do taking a Republican meme and spreading it everywhere.
As Dems we need to hold the line and keep pushing forward. Ignore the noise. Because that's what this is, Republican squirrel chittering to distract their own voters from reality.

Even Esquire is writing about it. And the reporting is not generous to Dems.
You may not think there is cause for concern, but, its not spreading bullshit to recognize that the media is going to spin a strategy story like this against the Dems. Are we to ignore that reality and not discuss its possible impact on a political discussion board? Really?

(74,775 posts)Thinking people know that we do not have an obligation to agree with everything that a small group of party members do, no matter if they are in office to represent the entire party. Others thin we have that obligation, which to me sounds far too close to what I find unacceptable among republicans. At the same time, many of those who think they are obligated do not hesitate to say rude things about the progressive wing of the party, and the few elected officials in DC representing progressive interests.
